CURRICULUM OFFICE UPDATE ON K-6 MATH PROGAM SELECTION

The district is moving ahead with selection of an elementary math program for the 2015-2016 school year. For the past few months, teachers and administrators have reviewed and analyzed a number of published programs for their alignment with district curriculum maps in grades K-6. We will soon be narrowing our focus to a few excellent candidates.

During May, groups of teachers at our elementary schools and Elkins Park will be using these materials during a pilot program with their classes. The experiences of our teachers and students during this pilot will help us to identify the strongest program to support our curriculum and instruction. We expect to make a final choice to recommend for Board adoption in June of this year.

On May 21, parents and community members will also have an opportunity to view the materials and speak with district staff members about the pilot programs. Materials will be on display at the Administration Building from 8:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. There will be a formal presentation by Gerald Aungst, supervisor of elementary mathematics, at 11:00 a.m., 5:00 p.m., and 7:30 p.m. All three presentations will be identical. For additional updates, please follow the district curriculum blog at http://curriculum.cheltenham.org

END OF 2014/2015 SCHOOL YEAR

2014-2015 End of Year Information: The 2014-2015 calendar was developed with 4 snow days built into it. Since the District utilized 3 snow days, the last K-11 student day and last teacher day have been pushed back 1 full day. The District's electronic calendar has been revised to reflect the following new dates for the end of the 2014-2015 academic year.
Last K-11 Student Day: Thursday, June 18 (building dismissal times will be posted on website)
Last Teacher Day: Monday, June 22
The above information is based on the assumption that NO additional snow days will be utilized.

12th Grade Commencement Ceremony:
The 2014-2015 Cheltenham High School Commencement Ceremony will take place on Thursday, June 11 at 6:45 pm in the CHS Main Gymnasium. This is a non-flexible date that is not subject to change.
