Principal's Message

I have really enjoyed the "happy noise" of children back on campus all day! Staff members are working hard to refine systems to provide a safe and joyful learning environment for all of our students. We're still in the middle of Connections Week (the first 8 days of school), where our focus is on building community, learning routines, and getting warmed up to move forward academically. Whether you are a staff member or a parent, thank you for all you're doing to support students as they begin the new school year! Feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions, and I look forward to sharing more information during Back to School Night next week. Kind Regards, Mrs. Wall

We're Having a Virtual Back-to-School Night "WEEK" This Year

Back-to-School Night is always an important night to hear directly from your child's teacher and learn about classroom plans and procedures. It also presents an opportunity to hear more about the school itself from the principal. Based on parent feedback from last year, we will be holding this event virtually through Zoom. In order to accommodate parents who have more than one child at Walnut, we will spread the event throughout next week. Zoom links will be sent directly to you. We will use the accessibility feature in Zoom to allow for simultaneous translation in Spanish.

Monday, August 30th--Grade 1

Tuesday, August 31st--Grades 2 and 3

Wednesday, September 1st--Whole School Zoom with Mrs. Wall and the PTA. Mrs. Wall will also share about the benefits of our Title 1 grant.

Thursday, September 2nd--Grades 4 and 5

Presentations will all begin at 6:30 p.m., unless you hear differently from your child's teacher. Kindergarten presentations were given at the K orientation on August 17th, and TK will schedule its Back-to-School Night for sometime this week.

Watch your email for Zoom links!

Safety Updates

Prior to arriving at school each day, families must perform a quick wellness check on their students. Please use this Daily Home-Screening Checklist for Families to review symptoms and protocols related to student illness.

If your child displays symptoms, tests positive for COVID, or has been a close contact with someone testing positive for COVID, let our school office know right away. They are happy to guide you through the specifics of quarantine and let you know when your child will be eligible to return to school.

Walnut Elementary School

Walnut is a neighborhood school with a BIG heart, where every student is valued and encouraged to develop a lifelong love of learning. We believe in developing the whole child, so we invest in the visual and performing arts, technology, and physical fitness in addition to traditional academics. We were recently one of five schools in Ventura County named as a California Honor Roll School. We are committed to our mission statement, Academic Excellence for All in a Safe, Enriching Environment. Walnut has an active PTA, School Site Council, and English Language Advisory Council. Each of these groups of parents and community members would LOVE to have YOU join them in making sure Walnut provides the best possible learning environment for students and families. Please contact us if you'd like to know more. --Mrs. Wall, Principal
