Director of Bilingual Education & World Languages
Dear Educators,
As we embark on this new school year, let us remember that our focus is to create sustainable systems that will benefit our students now and in the future. In order to better serve the needs of the HUFSD’s expanding multilingual population, the department closely collaborated with state representatives, district and building leaders. This was done to enhance and strengthen the programs and services required in CR Part 154.
For the 23-24 school year, we are implementing the following initiatives:
Integrated ENL in grades (K-6)
Dual language classes has been extended to include Grade 2
We're pleased to introduce Renaissance Star as the universal screener for all English Language Learners grades K-12
The district is committed to finding innovative ways to ensure that ELLs/MLLs are provided with the services and support they need. It is our goal to build a stronger learning community, which will lead to greater student achievement.
I look forward to a year in which our academic excellence continues to shine upon our shared belief in bilingual and multilingual education.

Hispanic Heritage Month is a time to reflect on the importance of Hispanic and Latinx culture. As a diverse community, we all come together to celebrate and grow while supporting and embracing one another's culture and identity.
Renaissance
This school year we will continue to utilize Renaissance to provide instructional support for success to all our English Language Learners. Through Renaissance, we provide an opportunity for students to demonstrate their skills in their home language, thus building upon their skills to proficiency. Our instructional ecosystem gives teachers and administrators a clear view of their students every step of the way. Simple, accurate assessment tools show teachers exactly where students are and what they’re ready to learn next. Engaging and flexible instructional tools personalize learning to each student’s unique needs, while insights and data solutions provide administrators with a clear vision into what’s happening in their schools.
