Volunteer Aid Workers

It is a commonly known fact that the Serbs are not fond of Muslims. On a personal level, my husband was told by his Serb uncle that a Muslim man shouldn't be allowed to marry a Christian woman. Obviously he was devastated and did not return to our location for two months. Even then, he was ready to undergo union with a Christian woman only if there wasn't any immediate danger to his own life.

Luckily , he escaped to Canada where he can wed a beautiful woman without fear of consequences. Sadly, his experience is not an isolated person. While in Belgrade he witnessed how a Muslim man beat up a Christian girl because she did not complete a spiritual test. The woman afterwards died from her injuries.

In reality, this episode took place in front of my eyes and I neglected to intervene. That's why I use the"No" option when I fill out the" Volunteering in my Own Country" self assessment form. But it must be stated that the exact same cannot be said about the volunteer services in Afghanistan and Iraq. There have been a number of cases of rape and violence against minorities. The victims are Muslims and Christians alike.

I can only expect that the authorities of Serbia will soon introduce a law which prohibits all forms of discrimination irrespective of gender, religion or race. I was surprised to find out that the government of Serbia has nothing great to propose so far as the safety of minority communities is concerned. There's no legal provision for victims of crimes to claim compensation from the offenders. Therefore, filling the"Volunteering in my country" self assessment form is totally voluntary.

In a situation like this, any person who would like to help the deprived people of his country should do so without any feeling of shame. As per a recent poll, nine out of every ten Serbs believe themselves as great philanthropists! This can be quite an amazing figure when you come to think of it. Additionally, it goes on to show that not all them are selfish or egoistic. There are some very genuine feelings of compassion and concern which they want to assist other people in need.

If you wish to assist the innocent victims of ethnic cleansing in Chechnya, you are able to fill out the"Voluntary Work overseas in my Country" self evaluation form. You will not receive any financial help. But, you will get a moral boost and feel great about yourself. And that is a priceless advantage!
