News from the Ridge
Shortridge High School News and Updates
September 27th, 2020
Dear Friends of Shortridge,
Much like last week, we continue our focus on two important items:
- If you have not already, please complete the Survey choosing either in-person or remote learning at Shortridge
- Last week's Parents in Touch Town Hall presentations were recorded and are linked below.
As we prepare to offer in-person learning, beginning October 19, each family must complete the Remote or In-Person Opt-In and Transportation Opt-Out Form. Having an accurate count of our students continuing remote learning or electing to start in-person instruction provides us the needed information to meet the academic needs and address our learning community's safety and wellness.
For additional information about the IPS plan to help your family decide--
- Attend the IPS Parent Institute on Monday, September 28, at 6 p.m. via Zoom. Members of the executive leadership team will walk parents through the plan and take your questions. You can register for this event HERE.
- And review the IPS Health and Safety Plan plan HERE for details about a wide variety of topics related to the reopening of schools, including the process of disinfecting buildings and COVID response protocols.
Below you will find additional updates, celebrations, and important information from the Ridge. If you have anything you would like to share, please email Malinda Scott, our FACE coordinator.

Remote Learning Opt-In and Transportation Opt-Out Form
Please complete the included survey, where you will be asked if you:
- Plan for your student to remain in remote learning through the remainder of the semester,
- Plan for your student to return to in-person classes but opt-out of IPS transportation (bussing) through the remainder of the semester, or
- Plan for your student to return to in-person classes with IPS transportation (bussing) through the remainder of the semester.
Details for students qualifying for additional supports:
- Middle and High School students who classify as Special Education, McKinney Vento, and are in the Newcomers program will attend in person on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Wednesday will be a remote learning day for these students.
- A full-time remote option is available for Special Education, McKinney Vento, and Newcomer students as well.
For updates and additional information on Shortridge's remote and in-person plan, visit our complete FAQ found here.
The Remote Learning Opt-In and Transportation Opt-Out survey can be found here. The survey due date has been extended to this Tuesday, September 29, 2020.
In an effort to maximize social distancing on district buses, IPS strongly encourages families, based on their ability, to carpool or walk if they are able. Choosing to opt-out of IPS transportation through December 2020 will allow for better social distancing and safer bus rides for students who need transportation.
If you have questions about the Remote Learning Opt-In and Transportation Opt-Out Form, please contact Shortridge at 317-226-2810 or email Malinda Scott, FACE Representative: tinsleym@myips.org.

CP and DP updates
CP juniors: In Personal and Professional Skills class, students are learning personal development and research skills. Students are exploring their strengths, identity, and values. At the end of this unit, students will share a presentation about how their unique selves add value to their career fields and communities.
CP seniors: In Personal and Professional Skills class, students are supporting each other in their research and writing as they complete the rough draft of their Reflective Project essay, due Friday, September 25. For this CP requirement, students research an ethical dilemma in their career-related study and write a 3000-word essay. The essay helps college-bound students develop the research and writing skills needed for academic success. Trade-school or work-focused students gain skills and perspective that will help them stand out in the job market as thoughtful and informed leaders. Next week, CP seniors will work on developing their plan for after high school and a road map to help them achieve their goals. Students will work on resumes, research college and career opportunities, and more.
