Forestville Student #1 in Section VI Weight Class
Forestville Student Leah Waite participates in the joint wrestling team at Fredonia Central School District. While the Lady Thunderbirds got the victory overall, the distinction of the first fall in a Section VI girls wrestling dual meet went to Fredonia’s ( Forestville Central School District) Leah Waite, as she pinned Chautauqua Lake’s Olivia Ridgley at 47 seconds of the second period. Leah is number one in Section VI for her weight class!
Congratulations Leah!

A Message from Elementary Principal Dr. Galluzzo
Thank you Mr. Rick!
Rick VanCuren, affectionately known as Mr. Rick, is loved by the staff and students at Forestville Elementary School. Rick is such an asset to our building for so many reasons. He goes the extra mile to ensure that the inside and outside of our school always look great. In addition, he has added so many awesome projects to our school. For example, he built the reading benches near the playground and the garden beds that are used to grow fresh fruits and vegetables for our students. He made a great giving tree for mittens and hats and built a beautiful fence along the creek side of the building. He has taken over tending to the small library near the school entrance so students can borrow books whenever they want.
Most of all, Rick is so loved by the students. Walking down the hall you can hear,” Mr. Rick!” which is shouted by all the students who are so happy to see his smiling face. He knows all their names, ties their shoelaces, and is always ready for a hug! Just recently, Mr. Rick treated our pre-k to an ice cream party and brought his new puppy in for them to meet.
A Message from our Middle & High School Principal Mr. Grande
Spanish Department Celebrates the 3 Kings Day.
The Spanish Department began its annual interdisciplinary unit with the Elementary school by sending high school Spanish students into some elementary classrooms. The Spanish students taught the elementary students about the history and culture of the Spanish Holiday, 3 Kings Day. Some high school students then helped the 3 Kings by visiting the elementary classrooms and delivering shoes made by Spanish Club members that were filled with treats and toys.
Middle and high school students baked traditional Rosca (3 Kings cake) and enjoyed them in class along with hot chocolate. Some lucky students found the ‘niño Jesús’ in their piece of cake and were able to be the king or queen for the day.
Forestville Students on their Way to STEM Wars!
The technology classes are all studying aerodynamics and the basics of flight. We’ve gone from student-designed paper planes to professionally designed paper planes which helped them form an understanding of the components and the physics of flight. We then move on to designing effective wing shapes. They used toy rubber-band-powered planes to learn the effects of motorizing an airplane. This caused a re-design of the wings.
Students are now beginning to transfer their designs into computer files, which we cut out using a Glowforge laser cutter on balsa donated by Mr. Grande (thank you ). These balsa wings will be attached to balsa sticks to create flying models. The skills developed will be used to make large-scale models with electric motors powered (hopefully) by solar film.
These will be entered into STEM Wars next month. Wish our students luck!
