Dear Town Creek Elementary Families,

We had another outstanding week at TCES! Thank you for all you do to help your student(s) prepare for school. They enter our doors ready to learn with smiles on their faces!

Kind regards,

September is Attendance Awareness Month

Make Every Day Count: Every Student Every Day, Must Be Present to Learn

Across the country, more than 8 million students are missing so many days of school that they are academically at risk. Chronic absence — missing 10 percent or more of school days due to absence for any reason—excused, unexcused absences and suspensions, can translate into third-graders unable to master reading, sixth-graders failing subjects and ninth-graders dropping out of high school. Visit https://www.attendanceworks.org/ to learn more.

Thank you for making regular school attendance a priority!

Big picture

CALVEX: The Calvert Cliffs Emergency Response Plan

If you live in an Emergency Planning Zone, you recently received this brochure in your mailbox: Emergency Planning for the Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant. Please see information re: school procedures on pages 2-3. In the event of a Site Area Emergency, TCES would be evacuated to Margaret Brent Middle School, our host school.

When you registered your child at TCES, you completed this permission slip (or one very similar to it). The permission slip is filed in your child's cumulative folder and our nurse has a record of each family's decision for their child.

This Wednesday, September 18, 2019, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Maryland Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) will be at TCES to conduct a site-based exercise where the TCES Leadership & Crisis Team will describe the required actions taken in our school building in the event that a response was needed to an occurrence at Calvert Cliffs.

This exercise will have no impact on students or their instructional day.

Student safety is our top priority at Town Creek Elementary School. We have plans and procedures in place for any type of emergency we could encounter, including a Calvert Cliffs Emergency Response Plan.
