Sixth Grade Band Bulletin
March, 2018
Entering our busiest stretch of the year
We are embarking on the busiest time of the year for the band program. This newsletter will provide some important information about all of the events coming up in the next couple of months.
In addition, there are some bits of information about upcoming things that we will be doing in class.
Huge congrats go out to all of our sixth grade band members who participated in the Solo/Ensemble Festival. I am so proud of all of the students who performed. It takes a lot of guts to stand in front of an adjudicator and perform by oneself. The adjudicators were VERY complimentary of the students. We heard over and over what nice, polite, and very prepared students we have at Rotolo.
Just over two weeks ago we had a fantastic trip to see the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra. The students were excellent throughout the day. We had a great time spending a few hours north of the Cheddar curtain hearing professional musicians perform music by one of America's greatest composers. We also let loose and had a great time at Dave and Busters. The people at D&B are already anxious to have the kids back because they were such a great group of kids. BRAVO SIXTH GRADERS!
As is always the case, please contact me with questions! (contact info at the bottom of the newsletter)
Sincerely
Rob Buckley

Progress Reports Going Home Soon
Note Name's Assignment in Powerschool
This looks like a grade in Powerschool. Powerschool does not even realize that it is not a real grade and thus grades the students.
Here is what it really stands for:
We are currently working on improving note names in class. All students are working on getting more accurate and fast at identifying notes. This is essential as the music continues to get tougher.
There are 5 levels of Note Name Slips (hence 5 points in that assignment). Each time your child passes a level, I change the number.
It will look like a failing grade for everybody at this point. Rest assured that it is not a grade at all, simply a place where you can see your child's progress. I made sure it is not included in either the Trimster 2 grade or Trimester 3 grade.
It's All About Teamwork!
