Superintendent Briefing
Reflections of September and Expectations of October 2020
A Note from Dr. Hanson, Superintendent
Hello NPPS Families,
Dear North Platte Families,
We are approaching the end of Week #7, and by all accounts, we are off to a successful start on our journey to reopen and keep open our schools. Our success is attributed to the cooperation of our families, the commitment of our staff, and the resilience of our students. We have experienced only minor glitches, which were addressed immediately. We will continue to refine and update our Return to School Plans based on guidance for the Public Health Department, Nebraska Schools Activities Association, Commissioner of Education, and the Governor.
Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, reducing the spread of respiratory illnesses, like the flu, this fall and winter are more critical than ever. To help schools, businesses, and travelers learn about strategies for preventing the flu, the CDC provides the following resources for each group. https://www.cdc.gov/flu/school-business/index.html
We ask that you continue to do your part by checking your child’s temperature each morning and monitoring your child daily for symptoms of COVID-19. We also ask that you keep your child home if they exhibit any signs of illness. Students are required to wear face coverings on school buses and throughout the school day. We do have a supply of extra face coverings on hand. Please refer to our website: https://www.nppsd.org/vnews/display.v/SEC/Students%20%26%20Parents%7CCOVID-19%20Resources for additional information. We continue to rely on our partnership to keep our entire school community safe and make our school year a success for all.
Additionally, we are continuously working directly with the West Central District Health Department – Public Health Command Center weekly to ensure we continue implementing best practices for health and safety. In the event, any health concerns exist within our school community; we will communicate the necessary information swiftly and through multiple platforms. In these circumstances, we believe clarity and responsiveness will be of the utmost importance.
As of today, we do not foresee any significant changes to our school schedule coming in the near future. We will continue to assess the situation keeping health and safety as our number one priority. If and when adjustments need to be made, we will provide as much advance notice as possible.
Thank you again for your support in the successful reopening of the greatest school district in Nebraska! As a community, let’s keep up the great teamwork to maintain a safe learning environment for our students and staff.
Sincerely,
Dr. Ron Hanson, Superintendent

Online Book Fair, October 12-27
A little bit about the book fair:
- Quality, ultra-readable books! Our partner for this online book fair is Junior Library Guild. JLG is an elite book-selection service that until now has only been available to librarians. Over 40,000 new books for children and young adults are published annually and JLG only selects the top 3% for its collection. So, you KNOW these books are going to be good!
- Safe & cash-free shopping! With health concerns and social-distancing requirements, this online fair is the perfect way for families to build their at-home libraries from the safety of their homes. That means, no need to worry about cash transactions OR germs!
- Direct-to-home delivery! Every purchase from our online book fair will be delivered straight to the shopper’s door. And any purchases from staff wish lists will be shipped directly to their classrooms. Easy peasy!
- Affordable selections! Most books in our online fair will be hardcover, first-edition books with library-quality binding. Prices start as low as $5/book—and shipping is FREE for all orders over $30.
Teachers will be able to create wish lists to create classroom libraries and our libraries will receive a percentage of every book fair purchase so we can also purchase more books for our students and staff.

Welcome back to Kids Klub! We are so happy to have your kiddos back in our program.
Thank you to everyone who is waiting patiently on our waiting list and for Mega Day information. At this time, we still plan to re-evaluate in December.
Within our programs we have been getting homework assistance up and running, we have individual supplies for each student, and our staff has been working diligently to maintain our sanitary standards. We continue to wear face coverings and appreciate how understanding you and your students are being with our new regulations. Your grace with us has not gone unnoticed.
A new partnership with a local therapist, Angela Bear, has been implemented with assistance from Brandy Buscher, our Student Services Director.
We are very excited to offer this SEL (Social & Emotional Learning) program at our four Title schools.
We are also working to roll out some new club-based programming as well as working on a new opportunity to assist our community with a playground design & build in one of our local parks. Stay tuned for more information on that soon. We are very excited about this one!
Thank you again for your continued support of our program.
