The Green Corner: Recycle Your Used Cooking Oil This Thanksgiving and All Year Round!
Even small amounts of cooking oil that are poured down a drain stick to sewer pipes, causing clogs and breaks that are costly for homeowners and municipalities to repair. Grease can also interfere with water treatment at our sanitary facilities. Innovators are now reconstituting cooking oil into biofuel. Planning to fry your turkey this Thanksgiving? Collect your used liquid cooking oil in a milk jug, tin can, or other container and bring it to the Wheaton Public Works Department (821 W. Liberty Dr.) for collection on Saturday, November 29th, between 9 a.m and 12 p.m. In addition to this special holiday collection, Wheaton collects used cooking oil for recycling the second Saturday of every month at the same time and location. For more information about this program, visit http://www.scarceecoed.org/recycling/recycling-events/566-recycle-your-cooking-oil-into-bio-fuel-this-thanksgiving.html.
