Safety First!
Dear River Hill Families,
First and foremost, let's talk about our students’ athletic accomplishments. We are entering the playoffs for both boys' and girls' basketball, a testament to the hard work, dedication, and talent of our student-athletes and coaches. The boys are in action this Thursday, and the girls will play on Friday. Best of luck to both teams!
Our athletes once again made us proud at the recent indoor track state championships. Our Girls 4x800 Relay team took first place, setting a state record and demonstrating their exceptional teamwork and perseverance. Congratulations to Lauren Virmani, Nikita Mohan, Alyssa Mattes, and Marella Virmani. Additionally, we celebrated impressive individual performances in the 3200-meter race by Lauren Virmani. The girls finished third overall in the state! CONGRATULATIONS!
Last weekend, our Poms team traveled to Virginia to compete in a challenging competition. Their performance was nothing short of spectacular, as they placed in all of their dances. The highlight of the event was their Pom routine, where they outshone six other teams to clinch 1st place. This victory is a testament to their hard work, creativity, and the countless hours spent perfecting their routine. The momentum continued at the Grand Nationals in Ocean City, where our team once again showcased their exceptional talent. Competing against some of the best teams in the country, they placed in all of their dances, with their hip-hop routine taking the 1st place. The energy, precision, and enthusiasm they brought to the stage were truly remarkable. The pinnacle of their success was winning the high score in their Varsity division. This accolade is a significant achievement, highlighting their superior performance and distinguishing them as the top team in their category. Congratulations to our awesome Poms!
Junior Charan Bala won third place in the WJZ Black History Month Oratory Competition! You can view his speech here. Congratulations Charan! We are so proud of his accomplishment.
On a more serious note, as we continue to strive for the highest standards of safety and organization within our school community, I wish to address an important matter regarding our school's procedures for dropping off items, particularly lunches, for students during the school day. It has come to our attention that there has been a deviation from our established procedures for dropping off items for students. Specifically, we have noticed instances where students are leaving the building to meet parents or guardians outside to pick up items. This practice poses a significant safety concern and circumvents the protocols we have in place to ensure the well-being of all our students.
To maintain a secure environment and minimize disruptions to the educational process, we kindly ask all parents and guardians to adhere to the following procedure when dropping off food, lunches, or any other items for students:
Please come into the building and bring the items directly to the front office. Our staff will ensure that your child receives the items promptly.
We understand that everyone's time is valuable, and we ask for your cooperation in taking these few extra minutes to bring items directly to the front office. This small effort on your part plays a crucial role in maintaining the safety and security of our students and staff. Thank you for your cooperation!
As we look forward to the prom season, our post-prom party (P3) committee is diligently working to ensure our students have a safe and enjoyable experience. I invite you to support our P3 fundraiser at Common Kitchen tomorrow. See the information below.
Our excitement continues to build for the opening of the spring musical, The Lightning Thief, which promises to be a riveting production. The shows, running from February 29 to March 3, showcase our student’s exceptional talent and hard work. I encourage you to secure your tickets for what promises to be an unforgettable experience.
Lastly, on Thursday, I was touched by a gesture I will cherish for years. Junior Lauren Jee, an entrepreneur with her own baking business, surprised me with a birthday cake (photo below). This act of kindness, so unexpected and thoughtful, was one of the best surprises of my career and a delightful way to start my day. I am also grateful to Ms. Kessinger's health classes for their giant birthday card and birthday wishes and to Ms. Hummel's culinary class for the delicious birthday truffles. Such gestures are a heartwarming reminder of how much River Hill is a caring and supportive community.
Have a fantastic week!
Warmest regards,
