The Greek alphabet. The Greek alphabet is a script written in Greek language since the 8th century BC. The Greek alphabet has 24 letters and was created by Greek people who took other culture's alphabet letters including the Phonecian alphabet. The Greek alphabet is over 2500 years old! Even though it is very old people in Greece still used it today to create new words.

Papyrus rolls were invented 550BC. Papyrus rolls were invented by a reedy plant that flourishes (grow or develop vigorously). Papyrus as a writing material resembles to paper. In the early classical world the standard form of book was the papyrus roll. It consisted of papyrus sheets pasted edge to edge with a slight overlap. The text was set out in columns, drawn up at right angles to the edge of the rolls, and started at the left. The reader will have to unroll the papyrus roll as he went along.

A semaphore telegraph is a system of conveying visual signals, using towers with pivoting shutters, also known as blades or paddles. The system was invented in 1792 in France by Claud Chappe, and was popular in the 18th to early 19th century. Semaphore Lines were a precursor (something that comes before another) of the electric telegraph. They were far faster than post riders for bringing a message over long distances, but far more expensive and less private than electrical telegraph lines.

The invention of the telephone is the culmination of work done by many individuals. In the 1870's two inventors Elisha Gray and Alexander Graham Bell both independently designed devices that could transmit speech electrically. Both men rushed their designs to the patent's office as soon as possible. Alexander Graham Bell patented his design first. Alexander Graham Bell and Elisha Gray entered into a famous legal battle over the invention of the telephone, which Bell won. The telephone was invented on 10 March 1876.
