SSS Staff "End Of The Year" Advice
STUDY TIPS
Assign both a study task and reward for yourself. Set a timer for 45 minutes at the beginning of your study session, and set your phone to "Do Not Disturb." When the timer rings, take a 10-15 minute break to clear your mind - go for a walk, have a snack, etc. Repeat this process until your task is completed. Once finished, reward yourself with whatever you assigned. (Phil Welsh)
STUDY TIPS
Plan ahead, give yourself enough time to study. Don't wait until the last minute. Make sure to give yourself breaks to go for a walk, work out, get some sunshine. Keep healthy snacks readily available (stop by our SSS Study Hours!).(Cindy Lopez Johnson).
STUDY TIPS
Get plenty of sleep, staying up all night and cramming for an exam will actually hurt you more than help you!” START studying now! Take plenty of "study breaks" After about 45 minutes you will become distracted, you lose focus. Perfect time to add a short break and than get right back to it. With that said, it can help to switch subjects regularly. Maybe it's a switch in content for the same class or its switching to a totally different subject, either way you will retain more information by adding in breaks and switching the topics up after a sustained period of study on the same information. (Jason Herman)
STUDY TIPS
Pace yourself. Studying and Semester End is not a sprint, it's a marathon. You need to plan for how you will get to the finish line, it's not going full throttle straight through, as this will most likely not end well. It's conserving your energy and strategically planning for areas you are struggling in and taking action to complete the marathon of finishing this academic school year as strong as you can. It may take time to organize and figure out when/where you are most successful when studying, but it will save you precious time in the long run. When in doubt, take a deep breath, clear your head and forge on. (Linda Her)
SUMMER BREAK TIPS
I remember coming back from summer break feeling like I had to start over with everything! Don't lose your momentum during break! Network, work hard, travel, meet new people, get an internship, anything! Three months is a long time to take a break from building your future! (Dustin Wagner)
