St Bernadette's Primary School
NEWSLETTER | TERM 1 | WEEK 9 | 1 April 2022
Message from Geordie
Dear families,
Good afternoon from my isolated loungeroom! Lisa and Mel have both reported that school has been a lot of fun this week and our students have been flexible and resilient despite the many changes throughout the school. I wish everyone who is sick a speedy recovery and I hope parents are able to enjoy the quarantine time with their families. Personally, I have enjoyed home learning with the kids, making cubbies, watching documentaries, and playing with Monster Trucks in the dirt, however, I think it would be fair to say George, Audrey and Nicole are very ready for me to go back to work!
A number of our teaching staff have been required to isolate either with positive results themselves or as household contacts. This has been a huge challenge to overcome, and I thank all our staff for the extra work they have done to cover for those who have been required to stay home. Many have lost DOTT time, covered extra classes or duties and supported Mel and Lisa in a variety of other ways – an awesome team effort and I can’t wait to be back on Monday to do my part!
Behind the scenes I have been working through many of the complications associated with running a school in the middle of a pandemic. Some of the conversations have been very difficult ones and when there are differences of opinion, emotions are high. While this has been the case on a number of occasions, I am very thankful for the kind and respectful way our parents have dealt with each discussion. I believe this is what makes our community such a great place to be a part be.
Since the latest State Government announcement, I have been in meetings with CEWA about what next term will look like and I will articulate some of this information next week. Obviously, there will likely be changes to this and so I will send out a newsletter just before the end of the holidays to keep everyone in the loop.
With Anzac Day being on the last weekend of the holidays, we will be having an online ceremony in Week 1. Mrs Roberts has asked for any photos you might have of family or friends who are currently or have previously been in the military. They do not have to be in uniform, it could be a whole family photo or a picture of students holding their medals etc. The ANZAC Ceremony team are hoping to personalise the presentation for the students so we would love any photos you might have. Please send them through to admin.
One week to go so please look after yourselves, we will be filming our Edudance Concert next week which is sure to be a heap of fun! While we obviously would have preferred to have you all at school to watch, we will do our best to have a good recording for you – the students have loved it and been working hard to perfect their moves!
See you Monday

Covid -19 Update
This week in COVID News…........St Bernadette’s currently has 41 ongoing positive cases across the school. I would like to again thank our community for being so supportive and vigilant and while there is still a rocky road ahead, we will continue to work in partnership with parents to keep our students safe and happy.
This news should come as a timely reminder for all members of the community to monitor COVID-19 symptoms and seek testing if symptoms develop.
Advice for all families and staff:
- The school remains open.
- We ask that you monitor your child/yourself for symptoms of COVID-19 and get tested and isolate until you receive a negative result if symptoms develop.
- If you or your child develop symptoms, please do not attend school.
- Please note that the Omicron strain can present with less typical symptoms such as diarrhoea, particularly in children.
Our school continues to work in partnership with WA Health as we respond to the pandemic.
If you have queries or concerns regarding your child please contact me. If you have health concerns, please contact WA Health on 1300 316 555 or at ncovcontact@health.wa.gov.au.
