Causes of the American Revolution
LETS GET IT STARTED
The Boston Massacre (1770)
No one really knows what happened during the Boston Massacre. There are two very different sides of the story. The colonists story is that the British soldiers just fired at them. They didn't do anything wrong the soldiers just shot at them killing five of the colonists. The British has a whole other story, they say that the colonists were misbehaving, throwing rocks, and calling them names, so they fired at that crowd which resulted in five men being killed.
The Stamp Act (1765)
The Stamp Act was a tax placed on almost all printed material. (Newspapers, legal documents, playing cards, etc.) The colonist were being punished for the Boston Tea Party. They protested and refused to pay. Which eventually lead to the Intolerable Acts.
The Boston Tea Party (1773)
The leader of The Sons of Liberty, Samuel Adams, protested the Tea Act which was a tax place on tea. The colonists dressed as Indians and boarded a cargo ship. Then they dumped the tea into the Boston Harbor. It was an act of civil disobedience.
Proclamation of 1763
This was a law which prohibited settlement west of the Appalachian Mountains. There was a line that the colonists weren't supposed to cross. The colonists felt very angry and viewed it as just a way for British to control them, so they crossed the line anyway.
