Gladiator Greatness
Members of the CCHS Ecology Club (pictured right) volunteered as elves for Sandy Creek Nature Center's Breakfast with Santa. These students assisted staff, escorted children, and helped with food and preparation.
CCHS wrestlers competed in the Classic City Championship held at North Oconee High School on December 11th. See pictures from the event in the Athens Banner-Herald.
The CCHS National Honor Society welcomed 44 new members at the induction ceremony held on December 8th. Students in NHS must be in 11th or 12th grade, maintain an overall A average, and complete 80 hours of volunteering each year of membership.
The Odyssey Media Group, Central's award-winning journalism program, held a Creative Writing Project Banquet on December 19th. Students shared written pieces, exchanged gifts, and enjoyed a fun time with their peers. You can see photos from the event here.
Congratulations to seniors Lillian Bruce-Ritchie, Josie Elliott, Jasani Byrd, Uchenna Onunkwo, Casey Pendley, Aravian Thomas, and Emily Vargas who won scholarships through the Athens Area Human Relations Council.
Honorable Gladiators and Glad Points winners attended The Big Event on December 11th. They were able to take a much deserved break from academics to play basketball, soccer, and video games, get their hair and nails done by our counselors, eat cotton candy and drink hot cocoa, play games to earn tickets for prizes, create bracelets and other crafts, and hang out with their friends. Alexander Robinson was selected as the 2020 United States Senate Youth Program's alternate for Georgia delegates. Alexander will receive a $500 scholarship for this prestigious honor. Read more about USSYP on their website.
Alexander Robinson was also named a 2020 Posse Scholar and will receive a full tuition scholarship to attend George Washington University in the fall. This scholarship is valued at over $224,000 for four years. He will be recognized at the Posse Atlanta Awards Ceremony in January. Learn more about this scholarship on their website.
The JV and Varsity Academic Teams both placed 2nd at the Northeast Georgia RESA Regional Tournament. Congratulations to Varsity members Everett Vereen, Will Harden, Micah Shannon, Abel Goodwin, Tomas Dougan,Ted White, Anthony Peterson, Cassius Tunis, and Monica Graham as well as JV members Luke Krohn, Ludwig Lechtreck, Xander Sweet, Adam Carabello, Cullen Bruner, and Henry Frierson.
Junior Sophie Caillault qualified for the final round of GMEA 11-12 All-State Orchestra auditions on January 11th. The All-State Orchestra will be held in Athens at the Classic Center on March 5-7.
Milledge Avenue Baptist Church and the Food Bank of NE Georgia generously donated to Central's food pantry to ensure it was fully stocked before the winter break. Baseball Try-outs
