- DONATIONS NEEDED! Contribute to WVWC's Spread the Love Peanut Butter Drive as part of West Virginia's "Day to Serve." Donations of peanut butter are much needed and will be accepted until September 30th. You can drop off any variety of peanut butter, non-perishable food items, or a cash/check donation (payable to WVWC) in the Center for Community Engagement & Leadership Development (behind the campus bookstore). - POSTER CONTEST ENDS FRIDAY! The Eco/Sustainability Team is holding a POSTER CONTEST with a $25 gift card given to winners as part of the nationwide Green Apple Day of Service. DEADLINE EXTENDED! Posters are due in the Center for Community Engagement & Leadership Development by Friday, September 27th by 1 pm. Poster themes include Clean Air, Water Conservation, Recycling, and Green Energy. Judging criteria will be on originality/creativity; clarity of message; and texture (materials used as part of the poster such as bottles, paper, leaves, etc.) Poster paper is available for pickup in the CCE (behind the campus bookstore). - LAST CALL! WVWC students who wish to become Appalachian Impact mentors must e-mail Brittany Johnk by Thursday, September 26th at noon. Appalachian Impact is a mentoring program that serves at-risk students in the local elementary and middle schools.

- The Children & Youth Team is offering a Love & Logic training open to all TONIGHT, Wednesday, September 25th at 7 pm in the Social Hall. Love & Logic is a behavior management program which encourages children to take ownership and responsibility for their actions without frustration or anger. The training is being given by local administrator and West Virginia's National Distinguished Principal, Dr. Sara Stankus and Cathy McCauley, certified Love and Logic trainer and Upshur County guidance counselor. - The Animal Welfare Team will be holding their third annual Bake Sale to Benefit the Lewis-Upshur Animal Shelter on Sunday, September 29th at Walmart from 10 am-3 pm. If you are willing to donate baked goods or if you would like to volunteer at the sale, please contact Briana Shockey, Camie Fenz, or Lauren Graham.
- The Children & Youth Team will be visiting the Rubenstein Juvenile Center in Davis, WV to work with boys in that correctional facility on Sunday, September 29th. The young men need positive role models and love to interact with college students. For more information, contact Morgan Downing, Tracey Gregory, or KC Green.
- The Social Justice Team is working with Aladdin Food Services to host Oxfam America's World Food Day again this year on October 2nd during dinner in the French A. See Dining Hall. Stop by the show cookery, where social justice team members will be serving you, and look for signs about how the food is local and in season. Learn about hunger issues and sustainable food sources then sign the Oxfam petition before enjoying your delicious dinner! Questions? Email Jess Walter to learn more!
- Gearing Up! The WE LEAD Social Justice League issue team is partnering with Church World Service and the Buckhannon community to host a CROP Hunger Walk on Sunday, October 6th. Registration for the walk will begin at 1:30 pm in Jawbone Park and the walk will begin at 2 pm. Twenty-five percent of the funds raised stay right here in Buckhannon for the Parish House and Salvation Army; the remaining 75% goes directly towards providing food and water as well as resources that empower people who are living in poverty to sustainably meet their own needs and thus rise out of poverty.

October 6-10, 2013
- Sunday, October 6: LGBT-affirming Interfaith Service; 11 am in the Meditation Chapel
- Monday, October 7: Bishop McCluney speaks on "The Spirituality of Homosexuality"; 7 pm in the Meditation Chapel
- Tuesday, October 8: Tie-Dye for LGBT Homeless Youth; 11 am on the Chapel lawn. The Tie-Dye event will benefit the Covenant House, a homeless shelter in Charleston, WV. Donations are welcome, bring something white!
- Wednesday, October 9: Second Chance Prom; 8:30 pm-11 pm at the Black Student Union. An LGBT-friendly party offering a second chance for those who missed their school prom because of the non-heterosexual nature of their date. All are welcome! Casual dress.
- Thursday, October 10: Wear Purple in memory of the victims of sexual orientation or gender-based violence
- Thursday, October 10: Candlelight Vigil for Peace; 8:30-9:30 pm on the Chapel steps. A candlelight vigil will be held in memory of all those who have lost their lives as a result of sexual orientation or gender-based violence.

Requests from the Community
- Literacy Volunteers of Upshur County needs volunteers for their Semi-annual book sale on Wedesday, Oct. 2nd from 8am-12 pm and again on Saturday, October 5th from 12 pm-3 pm at the Holy Rosary Church Social Hall (Franklin Street entrance). E-mail Katie Loudin for more information.
- Volunteers are needed for a mass mailing/labeling for WIC (Women, Infants, and Children), located in the WIC office next to Sam's Pizza. Two to three volunteers are needed to help prepare a mailing in mid- to late-October. Times and dates are flexible. E-mail Katie Loudin for more information.
- Up to 20 students are needed for the Buckhannon Academy Elementary School Fall Festival on Saturday, October 26th from 12-3 pm. Student volunteers can help in shifts if they are unable to stay for the duration of the event. Organizers need assistance with the costume contest, bounce house, pumpkin drop, and more fun fall festival activities. E-mail Katie Loudin for more information.
