School news and updates

Dear San Jose students and families,

The month of June has been a very busy one for us here at San Jose! We closed out the 4th quarter, started summer school, are enrolling new students, held graduation, have been hiring additional staff, and have been monitoring reopening guidelines. With all that has been happening, I am sure that there are many questions for the next school year. Please know that we are actively working on getting as much information as we can for you to help you prepare for the coming school year. As we confirm information, I will be sending it out to you.

In the meantime, I hope that you are enjoying your summer and are staying safe.

Take care!

Mrs. Knapp

Principal

Campus is closed to public

Due to an active construction site, as well as COVID-19, our main office is closed to the public. If you need assistance, you can email the main office at info@sanjoseprep.org or call 425-1725 and one of our staff members will reach out to you as soon as possible. Assistance is available Monday through Thursday, 9am-4pm.

We will be closed the week of June 29-July 3.

Uniforms

We now have an onsite uniforms store at 4040 Sunbeam Rd.

The store is currently open 10am-3pm, Monday through Thursday. An online store is also available: https://shop.sanjoseschools.org/

For the 2020-21 school year, the uniform shirts will be as follows:

Middle school:

Royal blue polo shirt

Gray hoodies

High school:

Black polo shirt

Black hoodie

Due to the new uniforms being implemented, returning high school students who still had blue shirts may wear them until they need a new shirt.

Bottoms will remain the same: khaki, black or navy long pants, bermuda shorts, skirts/skorts (no higher than 2 inches above the knee).

School hours

School hours for 2020-21 will be as follows:

Monday-Thursday, 8:00 a.m.-3:20 p.m.

Friday, 8:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.

The first day of school is August 10.

News from the Athletics Department

We are proud to announce that we have been officially admitted into the Florida High School Athletic Association, allowing us the opportunity to officially join athletic competitions in our area. Mr. Drummond has been diligently working on scheduling our Fall sports season and hiring coaches.

Our Fall sports will be volleyball and cross country. Be on the lookout for more information to come soon!

Return to school survey

As we make preparations for the reopening of school, please let us know what your choice for returning to classes you would want for your students.

Option 1: Distance learning- under this option, students would have to "follow the bell", attending their scheduled classes virtually during the normally scheduled class period. Classes would be taught live by our staff. Staff would also have "office hours" just as they have assigned tutoring hours during the school year in order to offer additional assistance. This option would allow for students and staff to stay socially distance to prevent further exposure, but allow students to have live access to their regular classes from their teachers.

Option 2: Blended learning- under this option, students would attend class 2 days a week and participate in distance learning 3 days a week. Classes will be held live every day during their assigned class time. On the days that the students have distance learning, they would have to log on to their assigned class at the time of the assigned class and watch the lesson live (1/2 the class at home and 1/2 the class watching virtually).

Please note that under option 2, we still have to follow CDC and Health department guidelines- if any students or staff were to test positive for COVID-19, the school would have to close and be deep cleaned and would not reopen under the allowable time has passed. In the event this were to happen, classes would take place via e-learning (option 1).

Any person admitted to campus once we reopen will be required to fill out a COVID waiver prior to being able to be on campus.

Attention Class of 2021- it's time for Senior pictures!!

EBT cards- yes, they're legit

If you received an EBT card in the mail, they are legit. We are a Title 1 school which means your child would normally be eligible for free lunch in the summer. Because of COVID-related closures, that program has been replaced by an EBT card, which can be used to buy groceries. It’s worth approx. $330.

Class of 2021- it's time to start thinking about scholarships!

You're officially a Senior! It is not time to start planning for college scholarships. One that you can begin planning for is the College Board's Opportunity Scholarship. Start organizing yourself now- go to:
