Cedar Grove Friday Flash
October 13, 2017
Dear Cedar Grove Families,
It was wonderful seeing so many parents at our Open House last Monday. As our partners in your child's education, it was a great way for families to see what their child's day looks like and the excellent teaching and learning that is occurring here at Cedar Grove.
We are very thankful to our PTA and our families for the many ways that you support the school. Thank you to the PTA for providing a successful Scholastic Book Fair! The children were thrilled with their new books and purchases, and it was a great way to encourage their love of reading with some new books. Special thanks to all the parents who were a part of setting up, taking down, handling sales, and assisting students in finding that special book.
We would also like to thank the PTA for purchasing a traveling Promethean board to be used by the art and PE teachers. The teachers appreciate the opportunity to use this wonderful teaching tool to enhance student learning. Last but not least, students were so excited to meet "Dr. Recess," who was brought to the school to share ideas and games with the staff that will promote self-responsibility, increase intrinsic motivation, and ensure 100% participation and inclusion of all students.
Mr. Derby and Mrs. German
So many great book choices!

Setting the 2018–2019 MCPS School Calendar
It’s that time of year again when the district develops the school calendar for the following school year. Since last year, school districts across Maryland have been discussing how best to design their school calendars given the new time constraints placed on the length of the school year. The current 2017–2018 school year is the first school year operating under these new rules, which are that school cannot start before Labor Day and must end before June 15.
MCPS has been meeting with focus groups of parents, staff, and other stakeholder groups and is seeking your feedback on how best to design the 2018–2019 school calendar. Next year, the district will have even fewer days to work with than in years past to accommodate instructional and non-instructional traditions. For a more detailed explanation of the calendar, as well as to see various examples of how the calendar could be developed, please visit the school calendar webpage. If you would like to offer comment on the calendar, please do so using the drop box provided on the calendar webpage.
