Statement of Theme
The theme of Al Capone does my shirts is to always support each other.
Them in the beginning of the novel
Quote: "Do you think that Esther P. Marinoff school will help Natalie? Yes, I saw kids improve in ways I never saw anyplace I've ever been"(Choldenko 200).
What it shows: This shows that even Moose and his family are helping Natalie get in Esther P. Marinoff school but she didn't get in.
Theme in the middle of the novel
Quote: "I'm going to write a letter to Al Capone"(Choldenko 207).
What it shows: This shows that Moose cares for his sister and is asking the worst criminal to help get her in.
Theme in the end of the novel
Quote: "She got in Esther P. Marinoff, Theresa announces with a big grin"(Choldenko 213).
What it shows: This shows that Moose and his family didn't give up because the first time Natalie tried go get into the school she wasn't accepted, but a few months later she progressed and got accepted.
Explanation of how the theme is universal
The theme is always support each other. The theme is universal because you can always provide help to anyone during any situation.
