Greetings Pike Lake Families,
I hope this week’s newsletter finds you well. On behalf of the Pike Lake Kindergarten staff I want to share with you how excited we are for the great progress we have seen already this year. It is quite remarkable to observe how independent our Kindergartners have become in just a few short weeks of school. We are very proud of their progress.
Today our Early Start classrooms participated in the Apex Fun Run to celebrate the final day of their Apex fundraising event. It was a lot of fun to see them running lap after lap with their classmates in this culminating event. Our Late Start classes are just starting their fundraising event which will end with a concert from Bob the Beachcomber on October 4. Fundraising events sponsored by our “home school” parent groups (Bel Air PTA, Pinewood PTA, Sunnyside PTA, and Valentine Hills PTO) are done to help these groups create and enhance programming and supports for our school communities. Families always have the choice about how or if they will participate. If you are interested in learning more about the important ways our school Parent/Teacher groups support our schools, please visit our website to find meeting schedules for all of these groups.
Building a healthy school community is one of the most important things we can do as adults to help students do their best in areas of social/emotional growth on their way to meeting high academic expectations throughout the year. The Pike Lake staff know how important it is to nurture young learners as they learn about themselves, learn to work in groups, and get practice sharing a classroom with many potential friends. Teachers will continue to build and reinforce fun routines in their classrooms to enhance the safety and predictability our students need for their success.
I have enjoyed meeting students throughout the day. This last week I had a chance to visit many of our classrooms to read a fun story and get to know even more children. Next week we will start a fun new tradition of Birthday Lunches where each student will get a chance to have lunch with me and other students who share a birthday month. Classroom visits and birthday lunches are just two small ways we will make it visible to students that we have a large network of committed adults who are here at Pike Lake to help them do and be their best.
If you ever have any questions or concerns you can reach me by email at todd.durand@moundsviewschools.org or by phone at 651.621.7403.
Sincerely,
Todd Durand
