Founders Weekly
May 20th to 24th
Shout out!
So many great things happened last week! I want to recognize a few:
Ms. Esquilin for supporting our youth to get work done!
Chef Park for mentoring our kiddos in the Beacon kitchen!
Ms. Hill for always being cool and calm in the midst of emergencies!
Lunch Coverage 5/24
Hi all,
I am looking for someone to cover Chef for lunch on 5/24. I will not be available. Thanks!
Safety Drills
We have a couple of more drills to run to close out the year. Please take time to make sure students know the expectations for fire drills and "shelter in place" lockdown drills to meet our requirements.
We will be hosting ALICE trainings in the summer and revising our onboarding system for substitutes and late arrivals for next year so that emergency drill trainings are included.
Exams
Exams are due to IEP case managers to review or request modifications 2 weeks prior to exam days. Please submit all exams by May 28th. No exceptions!
Emote
Please remember that Emote is an emotional alert system. It is used to give other adults a heads up when a child is having emotions that may prevent them from learning or they may need support with. It is not a discipline referral. I will never issue consequences for emote. Emotes should be simple, direct and allow other adults an awareness with how to proceed with a child.
Late Work
If a student has extended time in their IEP / 504 and hand in work after the due date the work needs to be graded accordingly and not given a 70 due to being "late".
Discipline Referrals
When filling out discipline referrals please make them simple and state just the facts. Choose 1 or 2 motivations. Please mark all interventions you have tried. This is not the place to narrate how a child has been behaving, describe past behaviors, or provide personal judgement.
Founders Therapeutic Groups
CCA will be in Wednesday to run the Founders therapeutic groups. The groups will run 11:15 to 12 and 12:15 to 1pm in 3006 for the last 6 weeks of school.
Detention Club
Detention Club is up and running. Please put names of students to serve detention on the appropriate day so faculty know who to expect. Please make sure parents know, especially those who take bus or alternative transportation.
Grade-level Meetings
Karen and I are making every effort to make grade-level meetings. Unfortunately at times, we are unable to clear our schedules or emergencies arise. Please understand that we are prioritizing the best we can.
Summer Reading Program
Ms. Esty has offered her support to help revamp the summer reading program. If anyone else is interested in helping, please let us know.
UBDs and Curriculum Maps
We will need to submit UBDs and Curriculum Maps for all courses of study. Please make sure you've shared whatever you have. Look out for paid summer opportunities involving this work.
Interview Season
We are currently interviewing for several positions Science, Special Educator, Paraprofessional. Please take the time to review resumes and sit in on interviews. It is important that you all have input into these positions.
Credit Recovery Opportunity
Founders will be offering credit recovery this summer for students in danger of retention/needing to complete coursework. If you are interested in picking up 2 to 6 hours a week, contact Ms. Rameaka.
