4/12/2019: Your Weekly Update for Mayfield Intermediate
Spring Break from April 15 to April 22
Spring break is a milestone during the school year. It is a time to relax, celebrate, and become rejuvenated for the last 7 weeks of school. It is my hope that every enjoys their break and returns on Tuesday, April 23 ready to work hard and finish the school year strong.
SOL Testing Begins May 14th
When we return from spring break we will have a couple weeks before we start SOL testing. Our goal is for students to be excited about participating in the SOL exam. The SOL exam should be a time for students to show off how much they have learned this year and how much they have grown. Please start telling your child how proud you are of them and how they are going to rock on the SOL exam. They are prepared to experience success!
Here is the current schedule:
May 15: 6th Grade Reading
May 21: 5th Grade Math
May 22: 6th Grade Math

Apple and Pear Awards
I want to congratulate our Apple and Pear winners. The Apple and Pear winners are selected by the staff. Our Apple winner is one of our school counselors, Ms. Peterson. Our Pear winner is one of our instructional assistants, Ms. Kaufman. Both of these individuals are well deserving of the awards and the recognition. They were recognized at the April 12th School Board meeting. We are very fortunate to have such amazing staff members work here at Mayfield Intermediate School.

On March 29 our Mayfield Bobcats participated in a Career Fair in which they were able to speak with people who work in many different career clusters. Local companies such has Micron visited our school. We also had several community career opportunities on display from our local police department and fire department. The Career and Technology Education students from the high school show up to share their experiences with our students.

Thank You!
I just wanted to say thank you to our Mayfield staff and the Manassas City School Board for celebrating with me as I recently completed a 6 year journey towards completing my Doctor of Education degree from Virginia Tech on March 29th. We celebrated with some cake at our staff meeting on Wednesday and the School Board provided special recognition during the Superintendents spotlight at the April 9 School Board meeting. Manassas City is a special place to work and learn and I feel extremely fortunate to be a part of this community.
