STILLSON BUZZ
April 2023 Newsletter
From the Principal
Dear Stillson Families,
Wow! I can’t believe it is April already! Especially since we continue to see white flakes falling from the sky! I know here at Stillson, we are all looking forward to some sunshine and hopefully an end to winter soon! Because of our cool weather and cold mornings, please continue to send coats/long sleeves (until 50 degrees), boots, hats/mittens.
Our monthly theme is optimism and we will be highlighting positive affirmations. Another important thing to note for the month of April is the Forward Exam taking place in grades 3-5. Classroom teachers will provide a testing schedule for their specific grades. Please make sure your students who are testing get a good night’s sleep, eat a healthy breakfast, and stay hydrated.
April is tornado safety month. We will practice the state-wide tornado drill on April 20. We will also hold our second intruder drill this month. As a reminder, the Chippewa Falls School District is very concerned about the safety of all students. Fire drills, severe weather drills, and intruder drills are practiced at various times through the school year. It is always helpful when parents talk to their children about these safety routines. Please assure your child that if he/she takes these practices seriously, we can maintain the safety of each person in the building.
As always, thank you for your partnership and support!
Sincerely,
Jennifer Sarauer
Stillson Elementary Principal

Forward Exam
Wisconsin Students in Grades 3-5 will be participating in the Forward Exam assessment during the Spring testing window. Our school is scheduled to take the assessment from April 4- April 22, 2022. The Forward Exam assessment tests students in the areas of English Language Arts (grades 3, 4, & 5), Mathematics (grades 3, 4, & 5), Science (grade 4), and Social Studies (grade 4). One or more sub-tests may be administered daily during the identified time frame and it is very important that your son or daughter be in school during this time. The Forward Exam assessment measures the knowledge and skills your student should have acquired by the time s/he reaches each grade level. The performance on the assessment will not affect any current grades. Please encourage your son or daughter to do the best s/he can. The results of these tests will be used to help school staff improve as teachers of our students.

Guidance Corner
The goal of the program is to provide food for students at Stillson who are at risk of going hungry over the weekend when school snacks and lunches are not available. If you choose to enroll your child, he or she will receive a bag of food to bring home on Friday afternoons at NO COST to you. Each bag will typically contain microwaveable or ready-to-eat food items and weighs 3-6 pounds.
If you are interested in enrolling in this program, please private message Mrs. Seavecki, school counselor at seavecef@chipfalls.org or through your child's class dojo account. I will send home a signature form for you so your child can begin receiving a weekly food bag. Thank you!

Why Every Day Matters
Why Every Day Matters: The Importance of School Attendance
Ellen Reilly, Family Support & Resource Coordinator
Chippewa Falls Elementary Schools
School attendance has the second greatest impact on student achievement, followed only by the quality of teacher; the best teacher in the world cannot teach someone who isn't there.
School attendance is the first key to success for your student/s. Having them arrive to school on time and ready to learn is an important routine that can help them build lifelong good habits and lead them on to a happy and productive life!
Research shows:
Students who are frequently absent in Kindergarten tend to gradually increase their absences in subsequent years, and demonstrate lower achievement in reading, math, and general knowledge.
Poor attendance has serious implications for later outcomes as well. High school dropouts have been found to exhibit a history of negative behaviors, including high levels of absenteeism throughout their childhood, at higher rates than high school graduates.
Students who eventually dropped out of high school missed significantly more days of school in first grade than their peers who graduated from high school. In eighth grade, this pattern was even more apparent and, by ninth grade, attendance was shown to be a key indicator significantly correlated with high school graduation.
If you are struggling to get your child/children/student/s to school, please reach out for support. Chippewa Elementary Schools are working together to increase attendance and improve your child's academic and social outcomes! Contact your child's school counselor (listed below) or Ellen Reilly, the Family Support & Resource Coordinator to see how we may be able to help!

April News from Nurse Caitlin
Wisconsin Immunization Requirements for the 2023-2024 School Year
FOR INCOMING KINDERGARTEN STUDENTS:
Wisconsin state law requires all students to show that they have received the following required immunizations or have a signed waiver within 30 days from the start of school:
5 doses of DTaP, DTP (diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis/whooping cough) or DT(diphtheria, tetanus) vaccine. A dose may be needed for children entering kindergarten if one of the DTaP doses was not given after the fourth birthday.
4 doses polio vaccine
3 doses of Hepatitis B vaccine - at least one dose must be after 6 months old
2 doses of MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) vaccine
2 doses of Varicella (chickenpox) vaccine
FOR INCOMING 7TH GRADERS:
The Wisconsin Student Immunization law requires a Tdap, the adolescent combination vaccine that protects against tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (whooping cough), within 30
days from the start of the 7th grade school year.
If your child still needs any of these vaccines, we encourage you to have your child immunized well before school starts to avoid the late summer rush at the Health Department or at your doctor’s office. Please bring your updated immunization records with you at registration. Please contact your school nurse with any questions.
CFAUSD Sick Procedure:
Keep your student home if any of the following apply:
Temperature of 100.4 degrees or higher in the last 24 hours before medication (Tylenol/Ibuprofen)
Vomiting or diarrhea in the last 24 hours
They have been diagnosed with a contagious illness (e.g.; strep throat, pink eye) and have been on medication for less than 24 hours if medication is required
They have an unexplained rash
