Week of 1/31/22
Happy February
Greetings Hawks!
February is here! You made it through January!! We hope you have a great February on the horizon!💜
🔔As a reminder your students can work on Dreambox, Myon, or Letterland at home at any time!
New Reminders
- Valentine's Day is around the corner. While classes may offer options for Valentine's Day activities, you do not have to send in anything. If you choose to, it must be small, pre-wrapped, and nut allergy friendly. Additionally, cupcakes, donuts, cakes, etc are not appropriate. Please do not have deliveries for students sent to the school. Students cannot safely carry glass vases, balloons, etc around the building all day.
- Food Deliveries and Breakfast: We understand that many students eat in the car in the morning. Students will need to finish breakfast before entering in the classroom. Please know that students cannot accept UberEats or DoorDash at school. This has largely impacted our Middle School Hawks. Students are attempting to order UberEats and DoorDash and then wait outside for their delivery (during class time).

Repeat Reminders
Weekly COVID Testing
Hilburn Academy will begin weekly testing the week of January 24, 2022. All testing and reporting is handled by a 3rd party vendor, Mako Testing, that is contracted with Wake County Public Schools. If you would like for your child to be tested weekly at school, please register him/her here.
Weekly Testing Logistics
- Students and staff may sign up to be tested in the weekly pool.
- Testing is 100% optional!
- Testing is done in pools, meaning samples are submitted in a group. The only way an individual is tested is if someone in the pool is positive.
- Testing will be done on campus.
- Testing is done by Mako Testing Staff.
- Tests are nasal swabs; however, they are short swabs, not the long long commonly called brain swab as seen on tv.
- Test results and follow-up tests for positives are handled by Mako Medical. School staff cannot tell you information related to the response rate or timeline of information from Mako.
Facts
- Hilburn Academy is not piloting a creative test program. All WCPSS are in the process of offering testing.
- I do not control contracts for the service. I cannot cancel or approve a new testing company.
- Every student in the pool will not be tested every week if the overall amount of testing requests passes 30.
