Message from Principal Groves - Week of 11/20/23
Dear Blacklick Families,
Thank you to all of our Blacklick families and staff that attended the Blacklick Bazaar over the weekend! We had a wonderful turnout! Thank you to the Blacklick PRIDE Partner PTO for organizing this event for our community!
We will wrap up our short week with an OSU/Michigan parade through our hallways on Tuesday afternoon! Our kindergarten students lead the parade and our students in grades 1-5 cheer them on! It is a great way to go into a break from school. There will be lots of scarlet/gray and maize/blue throughout the school on Tuesday! It is a fun day for all!
I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving with family and friends.
As always, do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns at 614-759-5100 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Talking Points - New GJPS Texting Tool
Gahanna-Jefferson Public Schools is excited to introduce a new texting tool that will help families connect better with their schools and teachers. We heard in our communication survey that text messages are the preferred communication method to receive information from GJPS and to support this feedback, we are expanding our district use of TalkingPoints to all staff and families.
TalkingPoints is a texting platform that allows families to receive the messaging as a text or through the TalkingPoints app. It also provides instant access to the messages in more than 150 languages. For families who choose to receive TalkingPoint communication straight to your text inbox, you will need to save the text numbers separately so you know who they are from. Otherwise, we encourage you to download the TalkingPoints for Parents mobile app in the app store on your iPhone or Android for additional features. More information about accessing messages can be found on our GJPS District website.
You will be receiving text messages from the District, Mrs. Groves and teachers in the coming weeks so please be on the lookout!
Counselor's Corner - A message from Mrs. Warfield, Mr. Rediger and Mrs. Jenkins
As we move toward the Thanksgiving holiday, we'd like to share how grateful we are to be a part of Blacklick Elementary's school community. It is a warm and caring community where we each learn a little more everyday. In the spirit of gratitude, please see the following link for a family activity to make your celebration even better!
Highlights from SECOND GRADE Related Arts
Music in Second Grade
Second grade musicians are going to begin learning a song that they will perform at the Jan. 12th PRIDE talk! We have been playing games like, “Who Has the Pumpkin?”, which helps us practice singing individually. The students are enjoying Thanksgiving themed music activities!
Art in Second Grade
The second graders have just started a new weaving project! We are layering watercolor and sharpie patterns to decorate our paper plate looms. Later, students will add warp strings (these are the strings that hold the others in place) to our looms. Lastly, students will get to pick from a large assortment of yarn and weave!

WHAT: The Pop Tab Program is a fundraising project that supports Ronald McDonald House Charities. By collecting tabs from aluminum cans, RMHC of Central Ohio is able to recycle them in exchange for money that is then put towards paying the utility bills for the Ronald McDonald House.
WHEN: September 5, 2023 - May 1, 2024
WHERE: Students can drop off pop tabs in the boxes located in each hallway at Blacklick Elementary.
