Our Upcoming Week
We have a busy week ahead of us! Monday, is Field Day. Please send a disposable sack lunch and drink with your child. Do not forget to apply sun screen to your child before they come to school, and please send your child in tennis shoes and field day appropriate attire.
Friday, May 15th is our memorial celebration in honor of J.J. Bryant. Please do not forget to send in a permission slip for your child to be able to attend.
In math this week we will be revisiting multiplication and division. We will use the distributive property to multiply two digit by one digit numbers. We will learn how to multiply two digit numbers using the standard form, and we will check our work with the distributive property. We will explore solving multistep word problems using both division and multiplication through UPS check. In reading this week, we will begin a new whole-group book study over the wonderful novel: The One and Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate. Please do not forget to send your child's copy of the book with them on Monday so that they may follow along as we read. We will continue to work on our biography papers this week in writing. In science, we will move into the create/crit protocol of our plant ELM.
The students are so excited about the upcoming Literacy Fair. We have several groups of students that are working together to complete a project to enter in the fair. They have been very excited. They have been creating their projects in Google Docs, and then printing them out to place on their display boards. Several of the groups have chosen to even work on their projects during recess! I am so blown away by their enthusiasm, I can not wait to see their end projects! If your child would like to participate, it is not too late! All entries are due by 8:00a.m, Monday, May 18th. I have attached the literacy paperwork and links at the bottom of our newsletter for you to access. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.
