STEAM in action during PE
Last week students played a building engineering game in PE.. The class was separated into 4 teams. Their job was to build a monster. Their monster had a body (Red Bucket), 2 eyes, 2 hands, 2 feet, a mouth, and a blue cone hat. The monster's body parts were hidden under cones in the gym. As well, some cones had nothing underneath them. The students job was to find all the monster's body parts and use tape to build the monster.
It was a relay race to find the monster's body parts. Each team sent one person to go look under a cone in the gym. If they found something, they brought it back to their team. If they didn't, they had to put the cone down and head back to their team. When the first person came back to the team, the next person was able to go and check under one cone for a body part.

STEAM WEEK
STEAM Week is this week, October 22nd through October 26th. We started the week with a visit from iRobot Monday. We had two assemblies, one for our K-2 students and a second for our 3-5 students. On Friday students will use their imagination and creativity to design a desktop-sized arcade game for their classmates to play. Students will be working within their classrooms to design their games from cardboard, recycled materials and their imaginations. This challenge is inspired by the short film, ”Caine’s Arcade”.
Each child should bring ONE paper shopping bag filled with the materials to build his or her own planned game. Bags of materials are due on Wednesday, October 24th. All materials must fit within the bag and bags may not be brought in before Wednesday, October 24th.
To learn more about Caine and the movement he began, enjoy the films:

CARE & SHARE
The Jane Shapiro Care and Share began in 1995 as a Dunning School community service project. Each month a specific food item is collected at the school to help keep A Place to Turn's shelves stocked. What a great sharing and learning project! Donations are gathered up by the students and then with help from staff, they are delivered to A Place to Turn. Learn more about A Place to Turn here.
Thank you for your contributions to A Place to Turn during the year. Our monthly food collection makes a huge difference in our community, while teaching our students the importance of giving.
