First Grade News

September 21-25

I have started using a new format for our news letters that allows me to email it to parents. I sent it out this morning to all parents that I have email addresses for. If you did not receive via email and would like to please write your email address in your child's planner and I will add it to my list!

If you are not receiving the email check your junk email because some email accounts will automatically send it there instead of to your inbox.

In math we are working on addition facts, ways to add and how to use a number line.

Fluency, fluency, fluency! Fluency is a word you are going to hear over and over this year! I will be doing weekly monitoring on how many words per minute your students can read. Our first quarter target is 10 words per minute. Reading with your child every night helps builds their fluency.

During writing time our big focus right now is picking a small moment and writing about it instead of writing about a very broad topic.

We are also working on knowing parts of sentences, using punctuation, using proper spacing and writing neat!

We are discussing the life cycle of plants and animals.

Social Studies

We are discussing what it means to be a citizen, how we can be a better citizen and why we have rules.
