February 2020 Parent and Student Newsletter

Principal's Message

Winter Greetings!

We hope that everyone enjoyed special times with family and friends over the long winter break. The children have made a nice transition back to school and were excited to continue with the work we have ahead to ensure your students success.

While spring feels so far away, this is the time of year when the schedule allows our teachers and students to dive deep into learning. Expect to see the following concepts being taught this month:

Fifth grade students:

Math: Triangles and Quadrilaterals in Geometry

Reading: Module 7 in HMH and a Genre Focus on Autobiographies

Science: Organisms and the Environment

Sixth grade students:

Math: Equations and Inequalities; Graphing; Relationships in triangles; Area and Volume

Reading: Genre Focus on Information Text

Science: Graphing motion, energy transformations, and Cells

Please ask your child about the awesome incentives we have for them as their DCA tests will be taking place in February. Exact dates can be found below. Please ensure that your child is in attendance for these important test dates.

In the coming weeks we look forward to many special school events including our Family Literacy Night on February 4th from 5:30-7:30 pm in the cafeteria. We are inviting your entire family out for a fun event with book giveaways for every one and dinner. Other prizes will be given out as well.

Warmest regards,
