Toronto Ranked Number 4 in The World in the 2017 Safe Cities Index
The results of the Economist's 2017 Safe Cities Index, which now covers 60 cities, again show a sharp divide in overall levels of safety between the fast urbanizing developing world and the stagnant developed world. The top three cities in the index are unchanged from 2015, Tokyo, Singapore and Osaka ranked first, second and third and still separated by mere tenths of a point.
Toronto had made the top 5 for the first time ranking #4.

The article below from today's Globe & Mail is one of the better pieces of reporting I've seen on the GTA housing market and I wanted to share it with you.
Greater Toronto home prices jumped in September as buyers appeared to put an end to a slump that began in the spring with government measures to cool a scorching real-estate market.
The Toronto Real Estate Board (TREB) said the average GTA home sold for $775,546 in September, up 5.9 per cent from August's average of $732,292.
The Ultimate Neighbourhood Rankings
The great thing about living in Toronto is that every neighbourhood comes with bragging rights. Rosedale has prestige schools. Trinity-Bellwoods is the capital for small-batch picklers. Etobicoke has low crime rates, Scarborough has lush parks, downtown has the most transit. Every neighbourhood has something going for it. But Torontonians are competitive, and we like knowing how we stack up.
To that end, we present a ranking of Toronto’s 140 neighbourhoods—a definitive document that separates the great from the good, the average from the awful.
The city has drastically changed, and so have our rankings....to wit: Rosedale, the former champion, has dropped to number 18.
And Top 22 Steaks by Neighbourhood
Steak is big in Toronto, even if the city might embrace the moniker Hogtown. While the old guard steakhouses specialize in splurge-worthy cuts, you'll find some more modestly priced options all over the city at French bistros and other casual restaurants.
Here are the picks for where to get a great steak in Toronto by neighbourhood.
Why telling people to rent rather than buy is bad advice
"Almost exactly three years ago, I bought a house in downtown Toronto. It was one of the hardest things I've ever done.
I'd been saving the down payment for 20 years, but prices were ridiculously high and bidding wars common. After viewing more than 30 homes, we put a bid on our dream house, only to be outbid by a measly two grand. Determined not to lose dream house No. 2, we turned to our agent for advice. As we huddled in a coffee shop down the street, she told us to raise our bid by $10,000 times the date of my birthday—and God help us, we did. It was a foolhardy thing to do, but we actually got the house."

Getting legal documents in order gives seniors peace of mind
With an aging population, it’s important to get your legal documents in order — and the earlier, the better, says Toronto wills and estates lawyer Lisa Laredo.
For the first time in history, statistics show that seniors comprise a bigger share of Canada’s population than children, she tells AdvocateDaily.com.
“If you lose mental capacity, you want to ensure your wishes are known beforehand. Nobody wants to be in a situation where they have to decide for someone without any indication of what that person might want,” Laredo says.
