BES Weekly Update
Sunday, November 12, 2023
Greetings from Ms. Gerdes
Wow! Feels like Fall may actually be in Texas?? At least for a few days. What a treat! Last week, our staff was able to learn and plan together. We spent Monday with a Teaching Artist from FOCUS5, who trains us in Arts Integration (arts and curriculum) and Acting Right (behavior). Staff learned so much that they have already implemented this week with students (photos below).
On Wednesday, we held a ceremony honoring Mrs. Patti Rogers, former educator at Bransford Elementary, who tragically lost her life earlier this year. So many members of her family, church family, friends, her former co-workers, community members, and former students attended to show their respect for Patti. We unveiled the signs that remind us of Patti's passion for education and love for her students. A reminder that each day we should follow the 'Patti Rogers Way' of teaching.
On Friday, we showed our respect to our Veterans. 2nd graders performed a concert that included reciting poetry and communicating in sign language. Bravo! One of my favorite traditions is when our students and staff 'clap out' and high-five our Veterans and their families as they walk down the hallway to the reception. We are so thankful to those who sacrificed and served for our country.
A reminder with the weather changing, we go outside on cold days so please send a jacket with your child. My boys would both only wear a hoodie, so I totally get it - I want you to know that we will always be outside as long as the temperature meets district guidelines and want you to be able to send your child prepared.
Wishing you and your family a wonderful week!
All My BESt,

Starting the Day Right
Students find their FOCUS before heading to class from the cafeteria. Ms. Phelps has students prepare for a day of learning. (Acting Right)
Kindergarteners use tableau to express their learning in class. Tableau is a still-life scene to communicate a story or learning.
Third-grade readers gather to discuss connections made to the story they read together.

Literary Lunch is Tuesday, November 14
Nutrition Services is thrilled to announce the inaugural Literary Lunch event for the 2023-2024 school year, scheduled for November 14, 2023. This exciting event will be hosted in all GCISD elementary schools and will feature a beloved children's book titled "If You Give a Moose a Muffin," part of the well-loved "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie" series.
To make this day even more special, Nutrition Services will provide a complimentary whole grain muffin to every student who chooses a plate lunch. Additionally, one lucky student from each grade level (PK-5) who opts for a plate lunch will be selected at random to receive a free copy of the featured book. Furthermore, a copy of the book will be donated to the school library, enriching the reading resources available to students.
This event exemplifies how GCISD Nutrition Services is strengthening the connection between the cafeteria and the classroom, enhancing student learning and engagement in a delightful way!
