A NOTE FROM DEANN
Dear CRHSAP Families,
After 20 years of partnering with the CRHSAP families to educate your children, I have decided it is time to begin a new chapter of life and join my husband in retirement at the end of this school year.
I applaud your commitment to educating your own children and feel blessed to have been a part of each family’s home school journey. The last few years I have been honored to serve families in my role as lead teacher. In this role, I sought to make decisions using the guiding principal of doing what I felt was best for homeschool families. I hope that my efforts and guidance have been beneficial to you as you have taken on the task of educating your children. It certainly has been my pleasure.
I am happy to announce April Tierney will be taking over as lead teacher. I know she is committed to serving home schooling families and is excited to be stepping into this role.
Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your lives these past 20 years; it has been a joy and a privilege.
Fondly,
Miss Deann

Robotic Club Information Night
If your child is enjoys building with LEGOS, Snap Circuits, Little Bits, or Erector Sets, there is a good chance they would be a good fit for a robotic club.
For the past 5 years, the CRHSAP has sponsored a Robotic Club. Students in grades 4 – 8 join a team of 10 students to design, build, and program a LEGO Mindstorm Robot to complete missions. Team members also research and offer a solution to a real-world problem through a themed project. Their robot scores points in competition rounds and students go before judges to present and defend their project.
On Thursday, May 16, we will hold a Parent Informational Meeting from 6:30-7:30pm in the Wilson Cafeteria. We will share information about our program and sign students up for next season which will kick-off in September and run through December.
If you are interested in learning more about our robotic club or have questions, you are invited to attend. Our club is currently open to returning and new team members. Parents are encouraged to sign their children up at this meeting.

WRITING ANTHOLOGY 2019
Submission deadline: Friday, May 3rd. We will not be accepting late submissions.
Calling all writers! ANYONE in grades K-12 can submit their work to the CRHSAP writing anthology, for publication in May 2019. Send in your poems, prose (that includes sentences and short paragraphs), original riddles, and short stories.
Submission guidelines:
1.) Include a title of your piece.
2.) Include the name and grade of the writer.
3.) Email work to jeajohnson@cr.k12.ia.us OR bring to the CRHSAP office and hand deliver (if you choose this option, it will be your responsibility to pick up in late May)
Publication guidelines:
A polished composition is highly recommended. For example, carefully re-write a poem on blank white paper (rather than lined notebook paper) or type. You might also want to include drawings or artistic embellishments in the margins.
Short stories and book excerpts should be limited to 2 pages. However, small exceptions can be made.
Think outside the box! Well-written reports, persuasive essays, calligraphy, hand-drawn characters with a short back story, limericks, and many other types of work are welcome.
Final composition will be at the discretion of the anthology editor.

YMCA FAMILY SWIM AND GYM
May Swim and Gym Times:
May 7th - 10:00am-1:00pm
May 14th- 10:00am-1:00pm
The Stoney Point YMCA is continuing to partner with our program in 2019 and is adding an exciting addition! In addition to pool access, we will also have access to their gym on our scheduled days. The addition will provide families with an opportunity to play a variety of games and sports with other HSAP families. The YMCA will provide balls for us to utilize. Please thank them for their generosity.
The YMCA is now asking families to pay a visit fee of $3.00 per family directly to the YMCA. Please know this continues to be a huge discount for us. The fee helps cover the costs of lifeguards during our swim time and it opens the gym for our use as well. Please thank them for their time! The YMCA is also asking families to fill out an emergency card if they have not already done so. Their priority is our safety. We hope you will continue using this space and encourage more home-school families to join you.
