Changemaker of the Week: Cavanaugh Bell
After being bullied, 8 year old Cavanaugh Bell decided he never wanted another child to feel the darkness he had felt. Before the pandemic, he was a champion for promoting anti- bullying giving TED talks and speeches to local government. He asked his mom to help him spread the message love and positivity. At the outset of the coronavirus pandemic in March 2020, Cavanaugh was focused on helping the local community in his Maryland suburb. He created care packages with toiletries and groceries for elderly people using his own savings of birthday and Christmas money. Eventually, with donations, he and his mother opened a food pantry at a nearby warehouse. He gained national attention and decided to extend his efforts to the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota — home to some of the poorest communities in the country. He has enjoyed being able to help so many people and plans to continue spreading kindness!
Arrival and Dismissal:
As we continue on through the school year, I want to touch base with families and review our arrival and dismissal procedures, to ensure the safety of our students, staff, and families.
Please use the drive thru to drop off and pick up your child.
Do NOT park on the street or across the street to pick up your child (it holds up traffic in the drive thru and on Mississippi during arrival and dismissal and slows down the car rider line).
If you are going to walk up to the building to pick up your child, we are going to consider your child a walker and they will need to be picked up in the front of the building.
At arrival, please make sure your child is ready and prepared to get out of the car, this helps with the arrival line moving faster.
If you have someone different picking them up from school, please call the front office at 785-832-5800 prior to 2:30pm to let us know who is picking them up. ID will be required.
We cannot let students go home with an unauthorized person without prior notification, documentation, and identification, please call the front office 785-832-5800.Please use the crosswalk when crossing the Pinckney parking lot. Please pay attention and follow the direction of the crossing guard at all times.
If you can stay in your car during the Dismissal Car Rider Line. The line moves fast and we can finish with dismissal by 3:15pm if weather permits.
Waterbottles
This is just a reminder that our water fountains are only in use to fill up water bottles. Please ensure that your child brings a water bottle everyday to school to stay hydrated throughout the school day! Each student was given a Pinckney Water Bottle at the beginning of the school year. Please clean those on Friday’s and return to school on Monday Mornings.
Happy Indigenous Heritage Month
Pacers
We DO RUN in cold weather, so make sure your runners come prepared with warm clothes on Mondays and Fridays. Hats and gloves make a big difference on cold days. In the fall semester we run up until winter break, and then we pause Pacers until after Spring Break. During this time of year, the weather can change quickly. We will make every effort to cancel Pacers by 1:00 if it looks like there will be rain or snow.
Pinckney Pantry
Our Pinckney Pantries, are OPEN. There are a lot of new things, check it out!
