What the Tech!
Tech Tip from Malinda:
The importance of using secure passwords can’t be reinforced enough. Following is a script you can use with students every time you take them to a computer lab, as well as a script you can use for yourself. If you find that any of these links are not working please report it to the help desk. Link to Script
Students:
Student network accounts are created using the student ID number as the user name and the student’s date of birth (mmddyy) as their password. Students are not prompted to change their password the first time they log into a school computer, however, date of birth IS NOT a secure password and needs to be changed. Students have the ability to control their network password by registering with the student password recovery tool. Once registered with the tool, a student can change their password at any time, or use the “Student I forgot my password” link located on the district website help desk page.
Do not use your date of birth (mmddyy) as your password.
Log into Student Password Self Service
To register, choose and save responses for the security questions. Note: this will only pop up the first time you log into password self service.
You will now see the main menu for student password self service.
Click on change password located in the main menu.
Follow the directions to choose a secure password.
Submit the password once the tool has accepted your choice.
Record your new password under contacts in your smartphone.
Staff:
Staff network accounts are created using the following format; User name: firstinitial_last name (mpires); Password: initials_and_year_created (mp2019). Staff are prompted to change their password the first time they log into a school computer. Staff have the ability to control their network password by registering with the staff password recovery tool. Once registered with the tool, staff can change their password at any time, or use the “Staff I forgot my password” link located on the district website help desk page.
Make sure you are registered with Staff Password Self Service.
