Principal's Corner
The beginning of the school year is off to a great start. Students are building relationships with their classmates and teachers. Everyone is doing a great job remembering to Be Responsible, Be Respectful, and Be Safe as they learn daily routines and procedures.
We have started our fall testing this week. Your child will take the NWEA Reading and NWEA Math tests. Teachers are also conducting Running Records with each of their students. This is the assessment tool we use to determine your child’s reading level.
I strongly believe in communication between parents, teachers, and principals to ensure the success of every child. I have an open door policy and invite your visits at any time. Please call the front office at 269.792.2281 if you ever need to speak with me regarding your child.
Yours in Education,
Christina Johnson

WUS Attendance Policy
We ask that you please keep your child home if they are sick, especially if they are experiencing symptoms of COVID. Specific symptoms of COVID to look for are fever, body aches, upset stomach, loss of taste and/or smell, and unexplained cough.
1) If your child is sick or has an appointment a note from the doctor/dentist will excuse the absence/tardy.
2) Funerals will be marked as an excused absence.
3) If the Health Department places the student in quarantine for COVID exposure or a positive COVID test these will also be excused, However, it is the responsibility of the parent/guardian to let us know they have been given that directive from the Health Department and how long it is supposed to last.
Attendance letters will be sent to parents/guardians when their student reaches a level of 5, 7 and 10 days of unexcused absences.
Medication Policy
If the medication being given is prescribed by a doctor we must have the doctor's signature on that form.
If the medication is an over-the-counter medication (ex.: tylenol, benadryl, etc.) we do not need the doctor's signature but must have the form signed by the parent/guardian.
Steeby Elementary does not have any medication on hand to give to your student(s), it must be provided by the parent/guardian.
