Happy New Year Panther Nation!
Greetings Panther Family!
Happy New Year and Welcome back! It’s good to see everyone back and rejuvenated. It’s always great to have those two weeks of good times with friends, family and good food. It’s been claimed that 2020 is our year – the year of the Panthers! January is all about positive changes and new beginnings.
As I have prepared for a New Year, I found myself thinking of goals and aspirations for 2020. I am a big fan of author Jon Gordon. In the past, I have shared my positive experiences with reading many of his books such as The Energy Bus, The Power of A Positive Team, The Positive Dog, and One Word. One Word is based upon the idea that resolutions are typically made with good intentions, but are very hard to act upon consistently and for a protracted period of time; certainly, even the most motivated of us typically see them fall by the wayside long before the year is over.
To counter this, Jon Gordon proposes that we thoughtfully seek one word as a theme to guide our year. One Word has the power to profoundly affect your personal life, your family/home, your work, and anywhere you choose to carry this idea.
The power of One Word is amazing. At Duncanville High School, each staff member has their own word. My one word for 2020 is Believe. When you believe in a brighter and better future, you’re more likely to take the actions necessary to create it. When you believe the best is yet to come, you give your best to create the best outcome.
I Believe the best is yet to come for Duncanville High School, I believe that we can be an A rated campus and I believe in the faculty, staff, students and community of DISD!
Thank you, and Go Panthers!

Report Cards
Report cards went out last week. I encourage you to discuss grades with your student and refocus on some goals for this semester. Make a New Year’s Resolution to help your student stay on top of assignments, contact teachers or counselors if needed, and encourage your student to take advantage of Tutorial. If you have not already done so, now is also the time to sign up for Skyward, which is the easiest way to quickly stay on top of your student’s grades and attendance.
Senior Information
Senior Parent Meeting, Thursday, January 23
Senior Parents, the Texas priority deadline for college financial aid applications is next Wednesday, January 15!
The FAFSA and TASFA are free applications that public and private colleges use to determine a student’s eligibility for financial aid, which may include federal and state grants, scholarships, work-study, and low-interest loans. It’s not too late to help your student get $$$ for community college, a 4-year college, or a technical school. Follow the steps in the flyer below to complete either the FAFSA or the TASFA. Additional resources are available at https://www.duncanvilleisd.org/payforcollege.
Need help? Our College Advisors are willing and able! Mr. Lemons and Ms. Blackburn are available to assist in the high school Go Center and can also be reached at alemons@duncanvilleisd.org, kblackburn@duncanvilleisd.org, or 972-708-3750. Seniors who complete the FAFSA or TASFA will be entered to win a 32” TV!
