Robert F. Smith Digital Projects Internship - Summer 2019
The Robert Frederick Smith Fund for the Digitization and Curation of African American History will support three internships at the Museum for Summer 2019. The Museum offers these internships to increase participation of groups who are underrepresented in the museum field.
The program provides individuals opportunities to learn more about the museum field through direct experience in internship projects under the mentorship of Museum staff. Individuals from traditionally underrepresented groups are encouraged to apply.
Robert Frederick Smith internships are 12 weeks (35-40 hours per week) and paid a stipend of $600 per week. An additional housing and transportation stipend of $150 per week is available based on need. Please note emails confirming receipt of completed applications are not sent for onsite applications.

Full-time Fellowship (18 months) - Institute for Policy Studies
Who They Are Looking For:
Candidates are selected from two streams of applicants residing in New Mexico:
- Recent college graduates (BA or MA) who would benefit from mentoring and work at IPS
- Members of activist groups where IPS and the group feel it would benefit the individual to have training in public scholarship in Washington

Local Government Institute and Internship Summer Program
The Institute, offered under the sponsorship of the W&M Government Department, is an intensive two-week introduction to local government management (offered at the beginning of the first summer session), and is followed by a six-week internship with a local government agency.
The Institute is conducted by Sanford B. Wanner, a distinguished and well-recognized local government administrator, and has a heavy emphasis on guest lectures by managers in local government across the region. Following the institute, students will be given assignments (in consultation with them) in local governments for six weeks. The institute has been offered for the past five years, and students have found it to be very valuable both as a class and an internship.

WILL Empower Apprenticeship Program (Paid)
Women Innovating Labor Leadership (WILL) Empower is a bold and ambitious new initiative to identify, nurture, train, and convene a new generation of women labor leaders. WILL Empower employs a broad, multi-pronged approach that interfaces with women on multiple levels and through interwoven programs.
WILL Empower is a national program, jointly housed at Georgetown University’s Kalmanovitz Initiative for Labor and the Working Poor in Washington, DC and Rutgers University’s Center for Innovation in Worker Organization in the School of Management and Labor Relations in New Jersey. It is the legacy project of the Berger-Marks Foundation.
WILL Empower will recruit recent college graduates and activists and place them in staff apprenticeships with unions and worker organizations in a range of capacities, such as in policy, research, communications, organizing, politics and civil and human rights.
The apprentices will receive strong mentoring and support, and will participate in a training and gathering. The apprenticeship will run from three to twelve months.

The Nature Conservancy is looking for a government relations lands policy intern. This opportunity aims to bring science, collaboration, and policy together to enhance land management. The intern will how learn a leading international non-profit conservation organization operates and makes important public policy decisions.

Paid Summer Internship - Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE)
FIRE offers a ten-week, paid summer Internship as part of their efforts to educate students about their rights at colleges and universities. This internship gives current undergraduates the opportunity to assist FIRE in defending civil liberties on campuses across the country.
FIRE interns do substantive work and participate in weekly seminars with FIRE staff and other experts on freedom of expression, due process, and much more.
Interns will work at FIRE’s downtown Philadelphia office. The 2019 program will run from May 28–August 2 and interns will receive a stipend of $3,500.

Paid Summer Internship: Family Economic Security (FES) Policy Intern
The Washington Center for Equitable Growth is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing evidence-backed ideas and policies that promote strong, stable, and broad-based economic growth.
The mission of the Washington Center for Equitable Growth’s Rising Professionals Program is to provide opportunities to college students from historically underrepresented groups in the fields of economics, communications, design, development, business administration, research, educational programming, and public outreach.
Intern Responsibilities:
- Research assistance as needed, including fact checking, data cleaning, data coding, and reviewing literature
- Contribute to Equitable Growth’s “Value Added” blog
- Co-author an issue brief
- Attend Family Economic Security relevant events in the Washington, D.C. area
- Assist with the day-to-day work of the organization (for example, providing logistical support for events, taking notes, and sending emails to external stakeholders)
Eligible to and undergraduate in good standing with coursework in economics or a related discipline such as public policy, sociology, political science, or statistics; preference for juniors or seniors with declared majors in one of these fields.

Paid Summer Internship: Moving Picture Institute
The Moving Picture Institute's Hollywood Career Launch Program helps talented young filmmakers get a foot in the door. They place interns with partner production companies and provide living stipends for the duration of their internship.
Since 2006, they have awarded over 160 paid internships. Their interns regularly receive offers of full-time employment from their host companies and go on to work in Hollywood full-time.

Internships typically last for 12 weeks. Most placements are in Los Angeles, New York, and Washington, D.C. Though they consider applications on a rolling basis, it is best to apply for summer internship positions as early as possible, usually in February.
