Jesse Boyd Elementary------ September 19, 2018

Greetings from Dr. Rose

Greetings from Jesse Boyd where we inspire and equip your students to become Jesse Boyd superstars this school year in a JBE Production. How quickly the start of school passes by! It is hard to believe that this week marks the 1/2 way point in the 1st quarter of school. You will be getting your first progress reports this week in Thursday folders. Be sure to review these and send them back in with your student on Friday. It is important to us that you are fully aware of your student's academic progress throughout the entire school year. Our standards of achievement for our students are very high and we certainly want to work with you to ensure each student is meeting those standards.

The next few weeks will be very busy as we move towards some awesome JBE traditions: Fall Festival, Veteran's Day, Boosterthon, and Thankful Thursday are just a few of the upcoming activities that you'll be hearing more about in the next few weeks. Please be on the lookout for information.

DUTY FREE LUNCH

Do you have a 1/2 hour to help out once a month? Once a month, our PTSO provides coverage for our teachers during lunch so that they can have a "duty" free lunch. This may sound like a small thing, but each day our teachers eat lunch while monitoring students during lunch. This allows them to eat and plan with their grade level rather than eating with students. Please sign up for a time to help monitor.

HUB CITY COLOR RUN

There is still time to sign up for the JBE PE Department's Color Run........ The Hub City Color Run

Cafeteria Menu

Our monthly lunch menu is not printed for each student, but can be found at the link below. The menu is subject to change occasionally due to availability or issues with staffing. When those changes are made, we try to put them on our JBE facebook page so parents are aware.

School Improvement Council

An SIC (school improvement council) is a broad-based body intended to advise the principal and school, and is focused on helping to achieve school improvement. Each year at this time, we accept nominations to fill 4 parent seats on the SIC. If you're interested in serving on the SIC and would like to placed on the ballot, please email jesseboyd@spart7.org by October 1st.

The SIC has 8 yearly meetings and requires limited work outside of those meetings.

Flu Vaccination

Spartanburg School District Seven has proudly partnered with ReGenesis Health Care this year to provide the school district with the influenza (flu) vaccine this fall. During these clinics, all enrolled students in Pre-K through high school are eligible to receive the flu vaccine. The flu vaccine will be administered as an injection/shot, as done during the previous school year. Flu clinics will be assembled with minimal interruption to the school day as we aim to make the elected vaccination as convenient as possible for both parents and students who wish to receive the vaccine. Information regarding clinic schedules for your child’s school will be released following the receipt of consent forms. Please read and review the information below.

Insurance/Cost of Service:

ReGenesis will administer flu vaccines at no charge to students.

If you are interested in your child receiving the flu vaccination at school:

  1. Complete the influenza vaccination Parent Consent Form. If the consent form is not filled out completely, signed, dated, and returned before vaccination date, your student will not be able to be vaccinated at the school clinic.
  2. Return the Parent Consent Form to your child’s school within five (5) days of receiving the letter (which will be sent home Thursday). Please have students bringing consent forms return the form to their homeroom teacher, who will then deliver paperwork to the school nurse.

Healthy Smiles

Each year Healthy Smiles offers free dental screenings to all of our students. A letter of information will be sent home this week with your student.

If you wish NOT to have your child screened, please complete the opt out form and return to school with your student.

For more information you may contact our nurse, Nurse Cummings, at 594-4430 or by email kscummings@spart7.org

Scouts

Cub Scouts enjoy great adventures and fun activities with kids their own age in a family-friendly environment. Scouting leads to new friends, strong values, and increased self-esteem. Maximize your child’s ability to succeed in life. All kindergarten through fifth grade boys and girls are invited to sign-up at our school on Thursday, September 20th at 7:00 PM at Jesse Boyd Elementary. Let Cub Scouting be your foundation for success! For more information visit www.adventurestartshere.org
