Grateful Heart...
I am grateful for...
...Virginia, Jenn, Angela and Michael for their many hours after school getting ready for the choir program. They practiced every day last week from 3-5:30! Some days it was HOT, and I know they are exhausted. The program was great, and the crowd was LARGE and enthusiastic.
....Christina and Will for planning a great Olympics activity day for their students on Thursday.
....Jenny Black, our diagnostician for working so well with us to evaluate and serve our students. Wednesday is National Diagnostician's day.
...everyone for your welcoming visitors on Wednesday! There's more this week....
..second-grade teachers for "setting the stage" for learning. The kids loved it!
Happy Week Before Spring Break!
Instructional Rounds
The protocol that we're using this year is looking at differentiation, so that's the lens we'll be viewing classrooms through.
Once I have a better idea of how many visitors we'll have, I'll send out the schedule.
Virtual Reality
Student Voice and other effective strategies.
Another large effect size is for students who are able to assess their own learning, which they also call self-regulated learners. That has an effect size of 1.44. I would posit that including student voice in designing instruction can be an effective part of developing self-regulated learners.
I think our building is currently very strong in that collective teacher efficacy. Think about the number of opportunities for you to work with others in order to meet a child's needs and our continued emphasis on collaboration and dialogue. Those Sherlock visits are important for good reasons!
Our board looks better, but we still have a ways to go. Remember, the goal isn't compliance...the goal is Collective Teacher Efficacy and Sherlock visits are just one more way to get to that.
Tuition PreK
In the 2018-2019 school year, GCISD will offer a tuition-based pre-k program at Bransford Elementary, Colleyville Elementary, O.C. Taylor Elementary, Grapevine Elementary, Heritage Elementary and Bear Creek Elementary. There will be limited availability at Timberline and Silver Lake Elementary for a blended program that includes English and Spanish (an option if you are considering Dual Language in Kindergarten).
The district will offer a 10% discount to current employees for the campus based pre-k program. Before and after school care will also be available in our KidzU program for employees with children enrolled in pre-k at no additional cost. The total cost of the program will be $5,650 including a $100 registration fee and $150 supply fee both due in the spring to reserve the seat. The first monthly payment of $540 will be due July 30.
GCISD employees will have priority placement on the requested campus for their pre-k student. Simply fill out this Google Form to provide us with information we need at this time. Forms must be complete by March 9. Additional registration information will be collected once the class placement is confirmed.
