Dear Sun Valley Families,
We are now in WEEK 2 of our online instruction continuity plan. ALL students should already be logging in and working on assignments in their Google Classrooms. Currently 91% of our students are already logging in and working on their assignments. Administration is currently working on the other 9% by making phone calls, so that we can be 100% online and most importantly, LEARNING.
A big THANK YOU to our teachers who have been working tirelessly to change their way of teaching and creating interactive lessons online instead. These lessons include providing instruction through creating videos of themselves teaching. Students simply watch the video and then on some days complete a short assignment. We met last week via Zoom and have already made changes to our expectations. Our weekly assignment due dates will be extended until Sunday. That way you have the weekend to work on assignments with your children. If you need longer than that please just reach out to the teacher. Our teachers are trying to make sure that most items can be done independently by the students. For our older students Google Classroom is not new and most students should be able to work independently. For our younger students they may need some help, however we are mindful of this and are trying to make it user friendly and manageable.
I also want to say THANK YOU to you parents for making sure that your students are logging in and working on assignments in google classroom. I want you to know that at SVE we are aware that some of you are still working as you are deemed as "essential" workers. We first want to say thank you for your service. Due to this, teachers are going to be flexible with assignment deadlines and assignment workload. All we ask is for you to check in with your children and ensure that they are logging in and working. If you have questions please don't hesitate to reach out to teachers via email or the Remind app. The teachers have office hours where they are available to meet with parents and/or students. The hours are posted in their google classroom under the "classwork" stream. You will see the topics listed on the left hand side and can click on it to see the teacher's scheduled times along with a link to click on so you can speak to the teacher live.
Below you will find other resources that are available for you to access from our school district. I will keep communication ongoing using our platforms such as Remind, School Messenger, Twitter, and now Facebook. Occasionally, we will be sending videos out to keep us connected to each other as a school community, or as I like to say FAMILY. Please know that we miss your children very much and hope to see them soon. Please stay safe and we will be in touch soon. If you are in need of anything or have questions please feel free to send me an email as this is the best way to reach me at this time. Thank you.
Sincerely,
