Transitioning to Distance Learning
Parents,
On 11/16/2020, our MMS Distance Learning Plan will go into effect. This newsletter contains the information you will need if your student will be engaging in the online distance learning option or if they will be using the offline distance learning option. We understand that there will be questions as we make this transition. If, after reading this newsletter you still have questions, please fill out the google form linked at the bottom of the newsletter. Please provide accurate and up-to-date contact information so that someone from our staff can get back to you with assistance.
We ask for your patience and understanding as we undertake this new challenge together. Our faculty and staff will be working hard to make the best of the situation and continue to provide high levels of learning for all, even from a distance. Thank you for your continued support!
Go Packets for November 16, 17, 18, 2020
Online Learning Plan - Begins Nov. 19, 2020
Assignments: This option provides a near-seamless transition into distance learning as students will simply log on to their Canvas platform each day, watch any instructional videos posted, and complete the assigned activities for each class. They can expect to spend a minimum of 20-30 minutes on each course per day, Monday through Friday. All completed assignments will be submitted via Canvas. Teachers will communicate with students through Canvas as well.
Teacher Availability: Beginning Thursday, November 19th, teachers will be meeting with classes using the student schedule listed below and will be available from 12:45 pm - 3:30 pm Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday to take parent/student phone calls/emails, to answer questions, and provide learning support. Wednesdays are reserved for planning and preparing instruction for the following week.
Student Schedule: Beginning Thursday, November 19th, students will be expected to follow the schedule below via Google Meet with their teachers on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays through a link on Canvas. Instructional videos will also be posted, so this will be an extra time, on the given days, to touch base and get clarification on lessons and instruction. Students will follow their regular school schedule using the following times:
1st Hour: 9:30am - 9:45am
2nd Hour: 9:50am - 10:05am
3rd Hour: 10:10am - 10:25am
4th Hour: 10:30am - 10:45am
5th Hour: 10:50am - 11:05am
6th Hour: 11:10am - 11:25am
7th Hour: 11:30am - 11:45am
Grading: Teachers will collect students' work and provide timely grades and feedback to students throughout distance learning. The grading/assessment procedures will mirror the grading procedures/structures used in the traditional classroom setting.
Attendance: Attendance will be based on assignments that are completed and submitted. Students are highly encouraged to participate in the Google Meets that take place four days a week for each class, but will not be counted "absent" if they are unable to attend due to unforeseen circumstances. As long as work is consistently being completed and submitted to teachers, students will not be counted absent.
Offline Learning Plan - Begins Nov. 19, 2020
Assignments: Teachers in all content areas will be providing paper packets with 5 days of instructional activities. The first page of each content section in the packet will have a daily "to-do" list for students for the week. Information about what work will need to be turned in and options for how to turn it in will be included on this page as well. Students can expect to spend approximately 20-30 minutes per course/per day on the assigned activities.
