Aeries Replaces PowerSchool

During the summer, Lakeport Unified School District's SIS (Student Information System) changed from PowerSchool to Aeries. Although not all of the data from PowerSchool transferred seamlessly to Aeries, as we begin this second month of school, we are getting more adept at ironing out the kinks and narrowing down where we're still experiencing problems. The Parent Portal component of Aeries - https://lakeportusd.asp.aeries.net/Student/LoginParent.aspx - requires parents and guardians to log in with the email address - or, in some cases, addresses - that the school site has on file for you. If you didn't receive an email stating that an Aeries Parent Portal account was created for you, please do not fret. Instead, please call our office at 262-3007 and our eager-to-assist secretaries, Reneé and Racheal, will enter your email address in the correct destination in Aeries so you can get your new account set up. Also, please note that - at any time - if you forget your password, you can simply choose the "forgot password" option and be immediately assigned a new (temporary) password. We're here to help, so please call if there's something we can do to ease this transition for you.

TMS USES REMIND: @tmsremind

The parent/guardian survey that we administered during Back to School Night in August tallied that 90 percent of our families prefer first to be contacted via cell phone, and 67 percent listed email as their second-most preferred method of communication between school and home. Drilling down the data further, the frequency with which most parents and guardians would like to receive communication is on a weekly basis (74 percent), followed by 44 percent who noted daily or weekly communication (Facebook, webpage). Please note that we have a REMIND account for Terrace Middle School. During our Conference Week in October, we will be encouraging parents/guardians to sign up for Remind in order to better streamline our school-to-home communication, of course, keeping in mind our families' preferred platforms and frequency.

New to TMS: Mrs. Michele Himenes

Mrs. Himenes, an alumna of all three Lakeport Unified School District sites, has joined the TMS team as our school counselor...and she fits in perfectly! Mrs. Himenes is a wealth of knowledge on school-related topics, such as class schedules and managing middle school friendships, but also on other matters, like social-emotional well-being, appropriate use of social media, and other individualized concerns of our student population. If you haven't met her yet, please swing by the TMS office and introduce yourself to her.

CONFERENCE WEEK: Tuesday-Friday, October 17-20

  • TMS's Conference Week is set for October 17-20, 2017. Monday, October 16th is a regular Collaboration Day with dismissal at 1:15. For the most part, no conferences will be scheduled for that Monday since teachers will be in their Collaboration Day meetings until 3:15. Tuesday through Friday, however, students will be dismissed at 1:25. Please make necessary transportation/childcare arrangements ahead of time in order to accommodate this schedule.
  • During conferences, teachers will be discussing many ways for parents/guardians to be apprised of student grades, attendance, and important school events/fundraisers, etc. We realize that the multitude of communicative avenues can be overwhelming; therefore, the conferences' face-to-face nature is an invaluable tool for you, your child, and the school to learn about how to maximize the school-to-home communication loop.
  • Please note that, as part of the Lakeport Unified School District's LCAP goal of increasing parent involvement, teachers are asked to keep track of parent/guardian attendance during the week that conferences are scheduled; please help the school district attain its parental involvement goal by attending your child's scheduled conference. Thank you!

Charnji and Ranjna Kumari of Lakeport Express Donate Funds to Terrace Middle School

In August, the owners of Lakeport Express, Charnji and Ranjna Kumari - and parents of TMS sixth-grade student, Sarthak Joshi - donated over $1,000 to Terrace Middle School. Each year, AmeriGas customers, like the Kumaris, can opt to donate a portion of their propane expenses to a beneficiary of their choice. TMS students share sincere gratitude for Lakeport Express owners - and all of their propane customers - for gifting our school with these funds. Pictured above is Ranjna Kumari; TMS student, Sarthak Joshi; TMS Principal, Rachel Paarsch, and AmeriGas Account Manager - and former TMS student - Courtney Beyer.

International Walk To School Day • Wednesday, October 4, 2017

We are excited to announce that, for the first time since 2008, Lakeport Unified School District will be participating in the International Walk to School Day on Wednesday, October 4, 2017. We are hopeful that many of our students' parents and guardians will want to participate with us by either walking directly from your home, or by joining us at the main meeting spot in the High Street Village parking lot. Bus routes will run as usual in the morning, except students will be dropped off at High Street Village and will walk the rest of the way to school. Jackie Courtney, the district's Food Services Manager, will make free breakfast available upon arrival at each of the school sites for all who participate in this international event. Please stay tuned for additional information, and feel welcome to contact the event organizer, Sue Stout, at 263-2191 or sstout@lakeport.k12.ca.us
