We Need S’more Teachers like You!
Grade Z Coming Soon
LHS will be piloting a new mark in our gradebooks during the fourth quarter. The grade mark “Z” will appear on the Home Access Center (HAC) for assignments and assessments. Teachers shall use Z grades as necessary for placeholders for missing assignments or assessments. The Z grades will calculate into a student’s grade as a zero immediately and until the student has earned a grade for the assignment or assessment. This will provide students and parents with an accurate reflection of their overall grade throughout the marking period.
Save The Date!! April 17th
Attention Seniors
College and Career Center

From the Counselor's Office...
Registration for SY 2020 for rising 10th - 12th is happening March 18th - 29th. Once we register your student, you can view the course requests on HAC. There are COURSE CHANGE REQUEST forms available in the guidance office, for any student who would like to request a change from what is listed on HAC.
If a student is absent for registration in March, the counselor for that student will complete registration during April. Our goal is to have our students registered for classes by May 1, 2019. Schedules will not be available until August.
The Dr. James A. Forest Career and Technology Center has released the first round of acceptances for programs for SY 2020. If your student did not receive a notification about a program there will be monthly updates throughout the remainder of the school year, as the tech center continues to fill all the programs.
Throughout the year, Guidance will send announcements and updates via Remind. To join Remind for a specific grade level, text the following bolded message to 81010:

Literacy Coach Corner -Celebrating Poetry Month!
In over nine years as an English teacher, poetry has always been a divisive topic. Some students will proclaim to hate it, yet others have revealed to me that for them, poetry is a way they can express themselves and try to make meaning of a chaotic time in their lives. It is so important for teens to have some way to write down and process their thoughts in a way that is not judged or graded, or even shared with anyone else (unless they want to!). Below are some ways you can help your teen express themselves in any kind of writing or poetry:
If you can afford it, let them pick out a special journal, or buy an inexpensive notebook and encourage them to personalize it with magazine cutouts or markers.
Pick a poem, article, or story of the week for the family to read and discuss together - perhaps this will inspire them! This website is a good resource for poetry.
Writing as self-reflection - I like this list of prompts to encourage teens to think about what’s important to them.
Encourage them to enter writing contests! Once a month I link to interesting writing contests for teens to enter. We also have a creative writing club (room 2E07, B lunch) and we welcome all who are interested!
