Grapevine Middle School
October 6, 2017
Future Panther Night will be Friday, October 13th and Future Mustang Night will be Friday, October 20th. Permission slips and schedules will be passed out on Tuesday. This event is for 8th graders only. Please look for them on Tuesday.
Beginner Band students need to be focusing their attention on the GMS Band Beginner Page. Please help them practice 20-25 minutes per day and help them with correct posture. This practice time can be broken into pieces at a time. Lessons 16-20 from the 5-Minute Theory Book need to be completed by Friday, October 13th. Please encourage your student to have weekly mini-concerts. This is a great way to help increase their confidence and stay on track with their weekly goals!
The Beginner Spotlight Concert will be on Wednesday, October 25th at 6:30 p.m. Students will demonstrate what we do in class everyday and parents, family members, and friends will sit next to his student during the performance! This is a required performance. Students will be expected to wear the GMS Band shirt.
Honors and Symphonic Band will have their first Fall Concert on Wednesday, October 25th in the GMS Cafeteria at 7:45-8:30 p.m. Students will need to report to the cafeteria at 7:15 p.m. We will be playing Halloween music, Pep music and possibly Veterans' Day music. Students are expected to wear the GMS Band shirt or they may wear their Halloween costumes. This is a required performance.
District Band Auditions will be held Saturday, October 28th at Heritage Middle School from 8-1 p.m. for Honors Band and some Symphonic Band member students. Each student will be in the audition room for approximately 1 hour. We are using a new audition procedure this year called Round Robin and we will be getting our students familiar with the process this month. If you have a time conflict, please send me the time you need so I can assign your student a time that works for your schedule.
Thank you to all of those who signed up for the GCISD Band Boosters. We have not reached our membership goal yet, and it is not too late to sign up! Please click here to fill out the form and return with your student next week.
Reminder, all students need to take their instrument home EVERY FRIDAY. Please read below for the Take Horn Home Grading Policy.
As always, it is honor to be your student's teacher!
