East Elementary
November 2020
Friendly Reminders from the JR2 Elementary Handbook
Here are just a few reminders from our JR2 Elementary Handbook.
- Please contact the office with any pick up changes by 2:00 PM.
- Flowers and balloons sent to students cannot be taken on buses. These items are also distracting to the educational process. Parents should have such items sent to your home rather than school. If parents choose to send such items to school, they will not be delivered to the classroom. Your child will be asked to pick them up in the office at the end of the school day.
- When there is a change in the information listed on your child’s enrollment form, please send this information to the school office. Report any change of address, place of employment, telephone number, doctor, or dentist. If the telephone number is unlisted we still need it for emergency situations.
- Please mark all coats, hats, gloves, and lunch boxes with student names.
- Electronic devices such as video games, cell phones, iPods and tablets should remain at home unless approved by the classroom teacher.
- Students should not bring their own playground equipment, toys, or other personal belongings to school for entertainment purposes. The school will not be responsible for items that are broken, stolen, or have caused disagreements with other children.
Thank you for understanding. If you have any questions, please call (573) 243-5271.
Other Reminders
- A fully charged ipad or chromebook
- Charger and charge cord for device
- Headphones

Staying Healthy
It is very important to remind your child/children to wash their hands frequently and cough into their elbows (especially, if not wearing a mask). Also, don’t forget to wash their cloth masks! Make sure your child/children are getting plenty of sleep and staying hydrated with water (don’t forget to wash your child’s water bottle daily with hot water and soap). Please remember to keep your child home until they are 48 hours free of vomiting, diarrhea, and/or fever (for fever they need to be 48 hours free of fever without the use of medication like tylenol/motrin). Thank you for your attention to this matter!!! We want everyone to stay healthy (we don't want to spread ANY sickness)!!!!!
Covid reminders:
Please stay home when sick (this is key!)
If anyone in the family is getting tested for covid please keep all children home until results are known. If negative, they can return to school (as long as they themselves are healthy and still following the 48 hour free policy). If positive, they will get a return date for school from our Covid coordinator, Dr. Beth Emmendorfer. Please let the office or school nurse know if they are absent for this reason. Tip: while waiting on results if you are able to keep the sick family member separated from the rest of the family (and they end up positive) the 14 day quarantine date would start the day after their last contact with the positive family member. IF you start the quarantine process while waiting on results you will have a jump start on the 14 day quarantine! If you can’t separate then the quarantine date can be up to 24 days.
If you are in quarantine due to a close contact with Covid getting a negative test yourself does not get you out of quarantine. You can still contract the virus (it can incubate up to 14 days after exposure). If you are in quarantine and you develop symptoms please contact your healthcare provider for further instruction!
Not sure if your child needs to be tested for Covid? Here are the Covid hotline numbers: SFMC (573)331-4200 and SE (573)519-4983
If positive with Covid, students can return 10 days after symptoms started. Plus, they need to be 48 hours fever free (no motrin/tylenol given during that time).
We are still in need of extra girl's and boy's pants in all sizes. Sweat pants and pants with an elastic waistline are appreciated! (Please, no jeans.). Larger socks are also needed!
Thanks, Everyone!!!!

TALK TO YOUR CHILD
One way that children learn language is by hearing it over and over. Your child will listen to you talk and use you as a model.
Parallel Talk = talking about what your child is doing as it happens. Describe your child’s actions, feelings, and playthings (ex. “You’re excited because we’re going to the park”).
Self-Talk = telling your child about what you are doing, seeing, or feeling at the time you are doing it. Self-talk will show your child by example how to put words together. (ex. “Wet clothes. Hang them up.” or “I’m washing the car. It sure is dirty. Let’s start with the roof.”).
Labeling = name objects, actions, and feelings. Give your child new words for your surroundings and activities to help build vocabulary. (ex. “Look, ball. Ball bounce, bounce. It’s fun.”).
