Dear LWSH Families and Caregivers,
Greetings LWSH Families, Caregivers, and Scholars,
We are looking forward to seeing our families at our upcoming Parent-Teacher Conferences that will be held on Thursday, October 3rd from 12:30pm - 7:00pm. We believe that Student Led Conferences are critical in student reflection and ownership. Therefore, as a part of our plans for Family and Community Engagement, we would like our scholars to lead the conference using work from Quarter 1 to discuss their progress and their goals for Quarter 2. Therefore, we ask that your scholar attends the conference with you and brings their device to retrieve work and share mastery levels.
We have successfully made it through the first quarter and are ready to step it up in quarter 2! As we move forward, we want students to set new goals to achieve mastery of key concepts they will be learning. Teachers will be presenting opportunities for our scholars to express their learning through writing, having multiple chances to revise until reaching a level of mastery. It will be the student's responsibility to utilize these opportunities and revise their work using the feedback provided by their teachers. This is a very important step for our students to truly learn the content, improve upon their writing skills, and increase their achievement.
In math, teachers will continue to have students engage in Math Talks to allow students to think through and discuss possible solutions with their peers. We know that the use of Math Talks is a great strategy to get our students to critically think and build on each other's ideas to understand a specific math concept.
In order for our scholars to maximize their participation in these activities that are designed to grow them toward achievement and beyond, our scholars must attend school regularly! We know that the pandemic has had a negative impact on some students' ability to maintain a focus on being in school, but we know the devastating impact it will have on our scholars in the future if they are not in school. We ask that every scholar "Get 2 School..You Can Make It!" If you and your child are struggling to get your child to school regularly, call us at 216-838-7100 and we will provide you with resources to support you. We continue to value your involvement and support in helping to make LWSH a place where all scholars achieve!!!
Sincerely,
Juliet King
Your Proud LWSH Principal
