COVID Protocols Updated January 4, 2022

Please read the link towards the top of www.washcald.com about our current Covid protocols that were updated this week. Thank you to everyone who is doing their part to stop the spread of Covid. Stay home if you sick. Pay attention to close contact situations. Watch for symptoms. Wear a mask when needed.

LEGO Club is BACK!

Ms. Vogt and the teachers are excited to announce that LEGO Club will start back up this coming week! Prior to the 2020 Covid shutdown, LEGO Club had upwards of 50 students stay after school every month to create and build with Legos.

January 19 will be our first Club of 2022. We are limiting it to 30 participants - a note went out via email on Wednesday and the 30 slots were filled in 30 minutes! There is a waiting list for the next Club date that will be announced soon. Ms. Vogt will send to the wait list parents first when the next date is chosen and then open it up to everyone. IF you want to be put on the wait list, email Ms. Vogt directly.

For students who did get a slot the first night is Wednesday, January 19 from 3:40pm to 4:30pm. Students need to bring a note that day in order to stay after school. You may send a small, easy snack with your Lego student if you choose. Students will create with Legos and be finished promptly at 4:30pm.

Boys Basketball Update from Mr. Zierath

WashCald Boys Basketball is coming to an end, but this season has been a blast. Players have shown great progress and growth in basketball. No matter the outcomes of games, the team always gives its best effort and hustle. We will be ending the season with a tournament between all the schools in the conference. Wish the boys luck!

A Request From Our Art Teacher

Ms. Goodsir is asking for donations of sewing thread and sewing needles. If you have these items please send them to school with your student.

Mark Your Calendar - 8th Grade Students

New Student Open House at Waterford Union High School will be held on Wednesday , January 26th, from 5:30-7:30 pm. This event will include a staff or self guided tour. Contact the High School Counseling Office for more information.

Math News from Ms. Maass

On Tuesday, 5th-8th grade mathletes participated in the regional Math Meet at the Kenosha County Building.

Our students demonstrated tremendous perseverance skills as they competed against multiple other schools in 5 challenging math events. Students worked their way through two problem solving tests, a logic and reasoning test, and a team problem solving event.

I am so proud of the hard work and brain power our students displayed!

Message from our Principal

Hello Bulldog Families,

We have received the results of the Pre-ACT 8/9 assessment that was taken in December by each of our 8th grade students. This is the first year we have administered this assessment with our students. The objective is to determine if the results will help us to provide appropriate placement at WUHS next year, as well as provide insight into where we need to improve as we work backward to the earlier grades. I want to reiterate that these results reflect one assessment and do not define your child’s academic success in its entirety. All 8th grade parents will receive your child’s results in the near future.

I want to provide all families with a COVD-19 update. The CDC updated the Mitigation Guidelines for K-12 education on January 4, 2022. The changes that were made mainly affect the length of quarantine/isolation. You may find the updated guidelines here. We have seen a slight increase here at school in both positive COVID cases and potential close contact scenarios over the past week. We are encouraging families to monitor their child(ren) as you would normally do. In addition, while masking is optional here at Washington-Caldwell, we continue to recommend the use of masks in the school setting. Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns regarding the updated guidelines or the health and safety of your child(ren) here at Washington-Caldwell.

I have reserved office hours each week to meet with parents to discuss school improvement ideas, concerns or to simply meet with you to increase parent engagement throughout the year. Office hours are on Wednesdays from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. You may also contact me via email at kmccormick@washcald.com, or by phone at 262-662-3466, Ext. 166.
