Happy Saturday!

Hello HHES Families,

Our third grade concert on Thursday night was a huge success! We would like to send a huge thank you to our performers and Ms. Miles for putting on an awesome show.

Next week, we are excited to celebrate Classified Appreciation Week. Our classified staff are an essential part of our school community. We appreciate all of our amazing classified staff!

We have a lot of exciting PWT events coming up. We hope you will consider joining us for them. Some of them include the BINGO/Silent Auction, March Book Madness, Spring Book Fair at HHES, and the Sees Candy Fundraiser. There is more information about each of these events on the fliers posted below.

Enjoy your weekend!

Emergency Drills

Did you know that we are required to have one safety drill a month?

This month we did a weather emergency drill during recess. We practiced what would happen if students were outside at recess and there was lightning spotted. Students at recess would be instructed to line up and then quickly they would relocate to our library until it was safe to return to their classrooms or the playground.

We learn a lot about things we do well and ways to improve when we conduct our monthly drills.

Mark your calendars!

Spring Pictures will be on Monday, March 13th!

SBA Interim Testing

Students in grades 3-5 will continue to practice the for Smarter Balanced Testing that will begin in May. Teachers will be working with students on interim tests, which provide sample questions in a mock testing environment. This is one way we are preparing our students for testing. If you are curious about what types of questions are asked on the SBA, please check out this website for sample questions.

Sample SBA Questions

Are you interested in being a Lunch Buddy?

We are always looking for ways to involve and invite our community onto our campus to engage with students.

We would like to begin a Lunch Buddy program at HHES. You might be asking what is a Lunch Buddy? A Lunch Buddy is someone to eat with, someone to talk to, someone to listen to, someone to laugh with and someone a child can depend on to be there for them. Most neighboring school districts have this program at their schools and this would be a wonderful way for our students to connect with our Hockinson community.

A Lunch Buddy can be anyone who is willing to donate one hour of their time once a week to connect with a student during their lunch and recess time. We can be flexible to best meet the needs of both the student and adult. Please let us know if you are interested by completing the interest form below.

You can also email Bess Colpron at bess.colpron@hocksd.org or call our office to let us know you are interested.

Conferences

Spring conferences will happen the last week of March (3/27-3/31). Your child's classroom teacher will be reaching out to you soon to schedule a conference. Students will be released at 11:15am every day that week.
