Week at a Glance
Marian Central Catholic High School Faculty Newsletter
October 15, 2017
Although the week was short, the academics and activities were many. We are so thankful for such dedicated Staffulty, involved parents, and energetic students.
“And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him” (Colossians 3:17).
Tuesday's Deanery Inservice brought us some time to reflect on how deepening our own spirituality not only provide a sense of peace within our own souls, but will also help build and strengthen our relationships with our students. If you didn't already, please fill out the reflection questions and submit to Ms. Novy to apply the 4 hours to your Catechist Certification.
A big thanks to all the teachers and guidance counselors for being proctors and facilitators of our yearly PSAT and Pre-ACT testing for our underclassmen on Wednesday. Once we receive the scores, we will be putting them into Rediker, as well as giving specific data to our department heads.
The short week ended with the Freshmen Retreat. Mrs. Jelinek did a nice job organizing the retreat and the student retreat leaders really took their responsibility seriously. It was very well organized and hopefully provided the freshmen with some reflection time on their faith. Student Leaders who gave their own testimonies had the freshmen's full attention as each testimony brought various student experiences and spirituality together, guiding our freshmen to understand the importance of growing in their faith.
Overall, this week gave each person at Marian a chance to breath in a bit of God's grace while preparing for a busy upcoming week.
Looking ahead...
Welcome to Quarter 1 Exam Week! As students and faculty prepare for Thursday & Friday's exams, the rest of the staff are ensuring that the overall atmosphere of the school allows for optimum focus.
Teachers, please remember that you should have provided some sort of study guide to guide students in preparation for the exam. Also, if any of you have not provided a copy of your study guides and exams to your department head and principal, it is imperative that you do, as they were due this past Friday. In addition, you needed to sign up for grade submission meetings with Ms. Novy here for Friday or next Monday. Please follow the exam guidelines and come to the meeting with each period's grades as well as the Failure, Missed Exam, and Medical Exemption reports as need be. All grades should be submitted no later than Monday, Oct. 23 at 5pm.
As teachers are providing reviewing opportunities for our students, our Student Mentors are providing strategies and ideas straight from the trenches on how to survive exams during Tuesday's extended homeroom. Remember, exams are Thursday and Friday. Thursday students will be taking their exams for periods 1, 3, 7, & 9 with regular classes during periods 2, 4/5/6, & 8. Friday students will be taking exams for periods 2, 4/5/6, & 8 with early dismissal at 10:40 AM.
If this week weren't busy enough, a reminder that there is Evaluwise teacher training Tuesday at 3:15 pm. It will take about 1 hour. You may choose to join it as a department, a random group of colleagues, or individually.
To Join the meeting online (suggested method): join.me/627-012-551 or to Join the meeting by phone... Call 415-594-5500 and enter code 627012551#
Remember, you can access it anywhere you have internet, so keep this in mind. It will also be recorded and we will send a link to the recording when it is completed so it can be available for you to review and/or attend at a later time.
Athletic events this week include senior night for both volleyball Tuesday and football on Friday. Surely our student athletes would appreciate any of their teachers coming out to support them!
Can you believe it... one quarter down; three to go!
Have a wonderful week!
Helping Students to Prepare for Exams
Philippians 4 : 6-7
'Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.'
When you present your worries, burdens and fears to God in prayer, he gives you the peace to not worry about situations. Being a Christian doesn't mean that you won't fall, it means Jesus will catch you when you do. The closer you walk with God, the less room for anything to come in-between, especially worries.
Proverbs 3:5-6
'Trust in the Lord with all of your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.'
The key word here is ALL, something a lot of us fail to do. It doesn't say with 'some' of your heart or 'half' of your heart, it says ALL. Keep trusting God. He is always in control even when your circumstances may seem out of control. When we put our problems in Gods hands, he will always put peace in our hearts.
